cleaning optics

How is the best way to clean my optics with out damaging them?

A soft cloth is fine. I use a generic microfibre one.

If it's really dirty i might use a damp soft cloth first.

I tend to keep the cloth in my photography bag, then I know that it hasn't been contaminated by grit or other scratchy stuff.

Another vote for the lens pen from me. Fits perfectly in my camera bag pouch and is very reasonably priced.

There is a lens pen for cleaning sensors. I have one, and it seems to work quite well, but I don't know what the difference is.
