My Sigma 70-200mm has been playing up a little bit lately as it twists ever so slighltly on the D300. It's got to the point where if it twists the camera can't register the aperture so uses a really fast shutter resulting in a very dark image.

Whats the best way of cleaning the contacts on the lens and the body of the camera as I think thats the problem.

Thanks.

If you are using an eraser, be careful that the debris does not get anywhere it can cause trouble.

I would stick with a clean dry tissue.

I don't have that problem with exactly the same setup, the lens sits tight to the camera. All I can think is the lens mount is worn or bad manufacture. Have you checked the small screws on the lens? maybe they have worked loose somehow.

Just tried my Sigma 70-200mm lens to my Nikon D300 and definately no movement whatsoever so suggest getting the lens checked out for that fault.

The cheap way is to rub with a pencil eraser, the best expensive way is to use Caig DeOxit
which is excellent. Just put a tiny bit on an artists paintbrush and wipe over the contacts. The 2ml tube will do dozens of lenses.

So that stuff is worth the money then.

I take it I clean both the lens contacts and the camera contacts with that then?

Will go with a proper clean rather than the eraser anyway. Thanks for that tip though :)

What model Sigma 70-200 do you have, mine a HSM II I think, doesnt have OS on it.

It's had slight movement in it from day one so just thought it was meant to be like that. I've seen another sigma lens move the same on another nikon aswell.

I'll bat an e-mail across to Sigma to ask for some advice aswell then

I had a problem with my 70-200VR and since using the de-oxit on both lens and body, not an issue since, and that was a couple of years ago now. It works, and works well

As Oggy says a piece of tissue/loo paper will do the job just fine. No need to waste on expensive products.

Oh dear. Look what the cat dragged in. Hi Mr Pants.

Dal I have a d300 and 70-200 hsm II, same as you, there is a little play between the camera and the lens, and I did try several lenses when I brought mine and they were all the same. I also had dirty contacts and as Roger said I just used a dry tissue and all has been fine since.

Thanks Dave.

I tried the cotton buds the other night and it seems to of resolved it while testing at home but I'll see on sunday when I use it properly. The contacts on the camera were fairly dirty. The lens ones were fine though.

Fingers crossed its sorted.

It's annoying about the movement in the lens on the body though isn't it.
