Yes
Not sure this is the correct place, but here we go!

I recently got my 82mm CPL filter stuck on a step up ring...... it was a right bitch to get off and we tried heating it, cooling it, WD40, etc etc and finally got it off.

I am now left with a usable CPL but I can't clean all the streaky marks off the CPL. They are just the normal sort of marks you get on the glass where you wipe with a cloth and it moves around but doesn't come off. I think its probably the WD40.

Anyway I've tried soap and hot water, I've dried dry cloth and I've tried my lens cleaning fluid (which is some Lee anti static filter cleaner i've had for about 10 years(!)) but I cant get the stubborn grease off.

Any suggestions?

Have a go with ROR ROR Lens Cleaner

I've used this stuff for years, first got it for my Optician daughter to use on her trial lens set.
I put it on the cloth rather than the lens first, use in a circular motion, works great for spectacles too.

Another option is cigarette lighter petrol, I use that to degrease many things, its especially good for sticky label residue.

WD40?

Isopropyl alcohol would be my first choice - although maybe Gunk would suit you better? ;)

It may sound like a silly thing to do but... It took us 3 weeks to get it off the step up ring without damaging either too much... desperate times.....

I have some IPA for modelling so I'll give that a go!

Is it possible in all your efforts that you have managed to get liquid between the two elements of the circular polariser filter = you now no longer have a CPL filter :(

If you haven't yet done this, be careful about cleaning fluid seeping into the filter under the ring - most polarisers aren't sealed at the edge.

thanks all

IPA has worked well. Will have to test it though to make sure it still works..!
