I recently started to notice big horrible specs of dust on my pictures when viewing on my laptop.I picked up a rocket blower but with no luck, am i correct in thinking the dust will be on the sensor as after using the rocket, the image was still the same.Changed the lens and again still the same / same position.

What cleaning equipment do i need for a D40x ?

I dont really want to use a butterfly ( from reviews i've read ).Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Did you use the rocket blower on the sensor? That would be the first step.

The arctic butterflies are great for cleaning sensors...

Yes i used the Rocket on the lens and sensor. It made little to no difference. The butterfly may be great but from reviews i've read, they didnt reccomend them. The swabs were recomended though.

.....UNLESS you have a sensor with oil around the periphery, drag it across with the butterfly, and spend half an hour trying to clean it off.

Did you have the camera on mirror lockup when using the blower? something often overlooked. On ebay there are several compaies selling sensor cleaning kits for all different cameras, I have bought from there myself for my old D70s Nikon before I upgraded.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Some people think that the mirror IS the sensor. To clean the sensor, you need to have the mirror out of the way by locking it up. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn't really touch the mirror (if you can avoid it) as its position is set very precisely for autofocusing purposes.

surely mirror lockup just locks the mirror but the shutter is still closed.
there should be a manual clean mode to lock the mirror and open the shutter to allow access to the sensor.
