Clarkson suspended by the BBC, TG taken off air.

Completely blown out of proportion. In the public eye, people think Jezza is a cock but in real life he's actually a good civilised bloke. Remember that he's where he is because he created that image of himself. Look at Russell Brand, I know who I find more annoying!

I've just had a discussion where someone said "without top gear JC is nothing, what will he do if he is sacked?" It made me realise that he is actually a far better presenter than his TG persona. His PQ 17 Arctic Convoy and the St Nazaire Raid documentaries were top drawer.

Some of his writing, especially relating to the war has been very good as well.

For those wanting to see another side to him:

Haha.

Multi millionaire media savvy broadcaster, writer and columnist. What will he do? :D

His books are very well written and very amusing.

The documentary he made about his father in law's V.C. was also very good.

I think Top Gear made him and he will defo fall in the rankings without Top Gear proberbly into completel obscurity.Lets see how long he has a column in a newspaper when his face disapears from TG.TG made him.

I think the relationship is more synergistic. There's no doubt that a prime time BBC platform and global exports have made him a star. Likewise, I doubt the revamped Top Gear would have been as popular as it has become without his screen presence.

BUT... I think the other 2 presenters have grown into their roles and TG could - now - survive with a new presenter.

Clarkson will succeed whatever he does. He's articulate (when he wants to be), funny and media savvy. Oh, and very, very well connected.

Got to love Dave

I really don't understand how people fall into the trap of 'the BBC hates Clarkson'.

They pay him millions, they let him get away with behaviour anyone else would get sacked for, time and time again.

I just wished my employer 'hated me' to that tune.

He makes them fortunes, they love him but are clearly frustrated that he can't behave like a grown up. I'd imagine every parent could understand this relationship.

I really don't understand how so many determine what other people think or what trap they fall or don't fall into. Why this need to put people in a specific box.

There does seem to be a trend more and more recently, of pigeon-holing people,
and telling them that they are wrong, the only opinion that counts is the "theirs"

There is and always will be opposing views on life the universe and topical conversation. ;)

including views on when to use 'is' and when to use 'are'

At the end of the new fifth gear, on the credits
"No producers were harmed in the making of this programme."

Along with "No entertainment was created in the..."

Love JC or hate him, he creates entertaining TV, the fifth gear bunch look for ways to modernise the boring old top gear format without plagiarising the interesting new one. They'd be better off starting with a clean sheet, because what they have created is 'neither nowt nor summat'.

End of theday they arent really in competition - 5G is a review program about cars , TG is a comedy based on three blokes p***ing about with cars as a back drop - you could apply the TG format to boats, cameras, hifis , woodwork kit etc and it wouldnt differ much

TG could be worse. Steve berry could still be hosting it o_O
now he is an irritating t**t who loves the sound of his own voice

The Brunel documentary was also decent...and I agree he is a good presenter. Can you imagine TG in a safe pair of hands; Titchmarsh, Parkinson, Wogan etc :nailbiting:

Steve Berry, had forgotten about him, wonder whatever happened to him!
I had also,
but Wiki has him tagged :D

He writes a regular column 'Berry on Classics' in 'Classic Car Weekly' and is a regular expert contributor on BBC Breakfast News.

On 6 December 2013 Steve was confirmed to return as the breakfast presenter for 106.1 RealXS (previously known as 106.1 Rock Radio) - to begin presenting in January 2014. He presents a weekly radio show 'Steve's Speedshop' on FAB Radio International, described as 'a digital man-cave for passionate petrolheads'.

He is the morning presenter on Real XS radio. and I think he is more irritating now than he ever was.

Not to mention when to begin a sentence with a capital letter, and end it with a full stop. ;)

I'm applying for the vacancy he leaves behind :D

don't be silly Steve , to get that job you have to be able to pretend to be a racist sexist homophobic knuckle dragging moron, completely lacking in tact or diplomacy with a penchant for driving cars way too fast ...:suspect:

Unfortunately I think Nigel Farage might be too busy... ;)

You can't have him presenting - you'd be limited to cars made in britain by british companies... so um aston martin, TVR and reliant then...

Quite. He'd spend the whole episode going on about how British cars are best, and then go and buy himself a German one. On expenses.

I've got a good track record of driving fast. The others I feel I need to improve on.

I think your criminal record will say otherwise

The only law Steve broke was the 11th commandment,
"Thou shall not get caught" :D

@ST4 I thought it was speeding, was it an sp30 and was it recordable?

DD40. It's still an unspent conviction.

I went for employment elsewhere. Rejected for criminal record. I got the dd40 for well, driving on a quiet m74 @ 138mph. Was charged with dangerous driving not speeding.

They will go for the dangerous driving if the speed you're caught at is high enough.

Not an SP50 and a few short months ban and a tidly fine (mine was only a grand) but the long ban and retest make the experience simply not worth repeating.

Seems to be a favourite with the Scottish judiciary, do the same in England and it would probably have been a shortish ban, a largish fine and a normal speeding conviction.

Aren't you glad you live in Scotland?

At double the speed limit you would have got exactly the same in England
