Was in my local Honda dealership and I was told that the sales of Type R Civics have plummeted after Jeremy Clarkson slated them on his show.

Changing to a torsion bar on the rear from independant wishbones was a silly move !!

They do look a bit cack though !!

Nothing to do with them looking weird then:D

As did the sales of the Rover Metro when TG slated that. In fact his "review" of the new (1995 model) Vectra where he just stood staring at it for 5 minutes, shook his head in disgust and walked away, caused the workers at Vauxhall to go out on strike the following day and it was years before he was invited to another Vauxhall launch or allowed to test drive any of their cars

What?! So much for Honda being one step ahead..I didn't know they had put a torsion bar on it :shake: back to the Saxo days!

I was one of those unfortunate buyers of a Metro, the worst ever car I have had the displeasure to own, among a catalogue of faults it had to be pointed out to me that it had no reversing lights, they had not even been wired up!!!.

I :love: the Austin Metro :cuckoo:

Was it a base or a City you owned, perchance?

Can't remember exactly what model it was, it was way back in 1981 but it would not have been the basic one. IIRC they had not long been out.
Cost then, £3400 new.

Just wondering - the basic Skoda Estelle used to come without reversing lights whereas the next model up had them. The only difference was that there were no bulbs in the lights of the basic model. There were, however, suitable ones in the box of spare bulbs that came with each car....:cuckoo:

I had a Metro and it was one of the best cars I've owned.

Skoda Estelle is a better car than a metro.

TV coverage certainly can boost, or stuff sales.
remember ewan and charlie doing "long way round/down"
bmw have shifted more of that model of bike in the last year or two than they ever have.

personaly , i dont like the look of the new type R.
then again , i'm not in a position to buy a new moped , let alone one of those.

well if honda dont like it then they will have to make a better car...
:D

Nah, they've just all seen the light and bought a Focus (ST in my case...)

I love the look of the Civic, but hate that engine, it has no torque and you have to keep it above 5K for it to do anything - bit like an old 250 2 stroke !

the thing is that people are dumb. they listen to what someone in the media says and take it all as gospel.
clarkson and his cronies do talk a lot of nonsense sometimes. Its all good entertainment but it doesnt mean its true.
fair play to them as they are often the first to admit it, though.
