Hi folks,

The warranty on my Epson Photo R1400 is about to come to an end and my thoughts are moving towards a CIS system. I already have a el-cheapo CIS fitted to my A4 Epson but figure the R1400 deserves better. The printer is used exclusively for printing photos and ideally I'd like to get decent monochrome results too.

I'm looking for recommendations for a suitable system and inks ... whaddya recon?

I struggled to get a decent cast-free b&w from my 1400 unless I used epson originals. But I got lovely colour shots with both an ink express (I think) CIS and a fotospeed CIS. POAH did me some profiles and I was very satisfied with the output. I spoke to fotospeed and the paper companies about the b&w casts and everyone blamed the printer, saying it wasn't really up to high quality monochromes. There is quite a bit on the web supporting this view although making it a dedicated b&w printer with multiple-black cartridges is possible.

Ink Express for me had it in my 1400 for a few years now and never clogged.

warrenty won't be affected unless the 3rd party CIS/ink causes the problem and even then all you do is swap the carts lol

I was under the impression that to install a CIS on the R1400 you have to remove the hinged cover from the cartridge holder, hence my decision to wait until after the warranty runs out.

I may be in touch for profiles shortly :)

I've experienced this cast problem before, even with genuine Epson inks. Guess I was just hoping this time might be different :)

With the Fotospeed CIS, do you use their KlariFine inks?

Cheers Ian. The Fotospeed system is looking favourite at the moment :)
