I am looking here at a circular polarising filter.

I will be using this with my 17-55 EF-S. My question is do I need a slimline filter? And will the one on the link fit the bill for me?

Thanks

The BW slimline circ filters are very good. I use them on my 17-40L and have been very pleased with the results. Unlike the standard polarising filters they don't vignette at the wide end.
The only drawback is that the cap doesn't clip onto the front in the same way. Its just held there by friction/grip. All well and good until the black plastic get warm. At which point the cap tends to fall off VERY easily. I lost a few caps until I started to use a velcro strap around the lens barrel with an elastic band stretched over the front to hold the cap in place. Simple but effective.

Best go for the slimline if you shoot at around 17mm to remove the vignetting issue.

BW are a very good quality filter - it would be a good choice.

Is the link I posted in the OP the slimline? It does say SL, but it seems much cheaper than the other slimlines I have seen.

Thanks for your help nomorem6 and Tom.

I shoot with a non slimline circular pl at 12mm with no vignette issues
I doubt you would need a slim one at 17mm - I didn't on my 17-40

So which circ pl are/were you using then because I get vignetting at the 17mm end with standard Cokin pl filters? Interesting

On full frame you may get vignetting at 17mm but it is highly doubtful on a crop body.

That's a slimline filter. The only thing wrong with it is the price. Far too cheap for a B+W! Is the price right? I'd buy it quick.

You won't need a slimline for that lens, but you probably will for the EF-S 10-22mm you get next :) Only drawback is the point about lens caps but that doesn't bother me as I've always got the hood on when out and about. Filter comes off when the camera goes away.
