Yes
Which do you recommend and is there a vast difference in quality between them?

Theres' not a huge difference... avoid the really cheap and nasty one ie Hoya "Green" series..

B&W, Marumi and Kenko / Hoya Pro 1D's are all good.

I use B&W and Marumi nowdays as I find the Hoya / Kenko can be a booger to clean.

Cheers, got any good links to best deals on these...warehouse want £140 for the hoya pro 1

Just get the Kenko Pro 1D wide band C-Pol - this is how how Hoya is sold in Japan, its identical to the Hoya version. Should be able to pick on up on Ebay, for less than £40.

I have a Hoya one which is adaquate, Puddleduck try using pure meths and a paper kitchen towel. Cleans up the filters brilliantly without leaving smears.

I use Marumi, but am considering changing to Heliopan.

If you are thinking of putting that on the Tamron 17-35 (or Nikkor 17-35) make sure your C-Pol is thin.

On a D700 / D3 if you stack an ND + C-Pol you'll get severe mechanical vignetting at 17mm stacked, zoom to 19mm if you stack.

I'm happy with my Tiffens but don't have anything to compare them with.

What about on its own?..I thought it would be ok

I need a 105mm one of these and am too scared/tight to fork out the £165 for a heliopan, so i'd appreciate any suggestions too.

The reason I suggested Heliopan is because they are cheaper than B+W, a lot cheaper actually.

Heliopan have a range of different CP filters, with the Kasemann being the more expensive, but the normal ones are reasonably prices .. even when compared to Marumi, unless you opt for the cheaper Marumi?

Teamwork list 4 different 105mm Heliopan circular polarizers... all prices are +vat and delivery. Would the average amateur see a difference bewteen the £155 ones and the £205 Kasemann.

I don't think you'd see a difference between a £50 and £205 one personally... certainly not blind tested.

I think there is a bit more to these more expensive filters than just the quality of the end-result? The weather here, in UK, is very "moderate"; if I was going to more extreme climate (which I am in a few months time) I would want something that is more durable .. I would think even the budget Heliopan would be better suited for climates over 50C than the cheaper filters.

I could be wrong, as I haven't test this ... but I don't want to be stuck out there and wishing I had spent the little bit extra.

There was a review of a selection in one of the photo mags a while ago and optically there was very little between them. The cheaper ones might be more liable to fall apart though.

I tried using a Hoya Pro polariser and found it very easy to scratch the coating. I found that a disadvantage....;)
