Hi all

I've got a 77mm Hoya Pro1 Digital CPL filter. I would like to be able to use a CPL on my 72mm diameter lenses.

What are my best options here?

Just buy a 72mm CPL filter, if so any recommendations for a good one? Or can I use a step up ring adapter with my existing Hoya, or does this cause problems?

Cheers

A 72 to 77mm step up ring is fine in most circumstances.

where do you get such things? and does it work well on wide angle lenses?

I was looking to source from ebay. I'm presuming that step up rings are fairly standard items, if they're not can someone please advice what is the best buy.

Use with wide angle lens (Canon 17-40L) is my concern here too. Are there any problems to look out for?

Cheers

Just noticed, 17-40L has 77mm filter size anyway so not an issue. The widest lens I'll use this on at present is 50 f/1.2L. I presume this won't be a problem?

As others have said, a step-up ring will be just fine and by far the cheapest option. For wide angles it might even be a better option than the "correct" size as it will be less likely to cause vignetting. The only downside is probably that the lens hood won't fit over it.

Most camera shops should be able to sell you the step-up ring, including any Jessops.
