Im after a decent polariser filter size 77mm and possibly an 82mm anyone got any suggestions on make and cheapest place to get one

Thanks in advance :)

I'm not sure you're going to get anything under £50 decent quality for that kind of diameter.

Also, (and I know everybody says this) but there is a massive difference in quality between cheap and expensive C-Pols - an expensive Helipan or similar will knock the socks of a Jessops own brand or similar.

Have you tried asking kerso (ian)? - I'm sure he does the better quality ones & his prices / service is hard to beat - PM him (usually responds in wee small hours) ... Paul ;)

I got a Kenco and was very disappointed (not particularly effective at doing what a polariser is supposed to do) with it compared to a very old Hoya.
I am told that many of the common makes use Tokina glass.
Don't know whether they all have the same coatings though.

Folk recommended Lee and B&W to me, but I have still to buy.

:agree:

I have both a B+W and a Lee circular polariser and can recommend either.

I'd recommend a Heliopan. Just bought one a couple of weeks ago and it's great. Results are 'what i expected as i've never owned a polarizer before) and the quality of it is phenominal. I was a bit wary about spending the money, but you certainly know where it's gone when you hold it - very heavy, ultra smooth rotation

B+W, yes they are expensive but they should last a lifetime :)

I've used Nikon, Hoya, Marumi and am now using Heliopan.

The Nikon were good, but not as good as the Marumi, which are no where near as good as the Heliopan. Of course, there is a price difference between each .. but well worth it.

There are very cheap CP, 77mm can be found for well under £20 on ebay, but I would never recommend or attempt to try these. On the flip side, there are some who've said they're happy with the results they get from these relatively cheap CPs .

I bought my HOYA Super Quality PRO1 CP from Hong Kong, no probs, fast delivery.
I used a HOYA green box for a while then went upmarket.
My Granddaughter now uses the cheapo to look for fish in the river.

I've currently got a 67mm B&W Slim MRC, a 72mm Kood and a Marumi 77mm.

Can't see any difference - they all do the same thing.

From my experience, it is the cleaning of the filter that was the problem.

My Nikon got candle wax dripped on it (please don't ask how) and it was impossible to remove. The Hoya was practically impossible to wipe clean while out shooting, I'd need to be seated and take a good 15 minutes if not more, to wipe it clean; it was ever so painful to maintain.

Heliopan are just great ... they wipe clean easily and haven't given me any headaches. That merits the price difference, for me.

I can certainly agree with that. Mine's already had salt spray and ice on it, so needed cleaning 'in the field' and was a breeze. Much easier to clean that my HiTech filters.
