Went to the cinema in Leith, EDI, and thought about leaving the D3 in the car...and realised it wasn't going to happen. Had my Lowerporo AW200 and the D3 with wide angle attached, and bought tickets to Mamma Mia for me and Claire. Tickets purchased with the camera around my neck (no room in the bag), and I buggered off for some fish and chips before the film...

I enter screen 11 and I am instantly stopped by staff.

Him
"You can't bring a camera in here"...

Me
"it can only take still photos"

Him
"It's massive though"

Me
"It can only take still photos"

Him
"Look at it, you can't expect anyone to let you in"

Me
"it can only take still photos"

Him
"I know that"

Me
"I bet 99% of the mobiles have video cameras attached"

Him
"Yes, I know, but we do patrols and keep an eye on things"

Me
"Keep an eye on me then, its huge, you wont miss me using it"

And so on and so forth...

Eventually I caused enough of a scene to force the manager of the cinema to come intervene. She explains about company policy, I complain about mobiles, and lack of signs etc. Eventually, she tells me she can put it in her safe until after the film, I refuse and explain my insurance would not cover it in the event of theft or loss....

Eventually she allows me in, but only after I allow her to take my battery, and I prove I cant turn it on.

:bang:

Common sense says leave the camera at home, however I left straight from work, don't trust my office, don't trust the car parked in leith, and had nowhere to hide it.

I will be complaining and asking for free tickets for some films.

@rseholes :D

Gary.

*******s.
stream it off internet next time. dont waste your money on pierce brosnan singing.

And yeah, that's crap, but if you were working in a cinema, would you have the common knowledge to let people in or out with the camera :p

hahahaha.

damn i forgot to add... "whatta mistaka to maka"

lol whats the matter mate dont trust people....

now you were never a bad lad where you..

md

 mamma mia

you big soft get

You knew before you went in that having a cam around your neck would cause a scene. Didn't you? Admit it.

Oh, and if it doesn't fit in your bag then....

You need a bigger bag :)

You should have given it the "Do you know who I am?" line! Me and this camera were on Reporting Scotland you know!!

Was it not Dom Jolly who walked into a cinema with a hat with a video camera on it and didn't get stopped? On an episode of Trigger Happy TV if remember correctly!

Mama Mia though????? :cuckoo:

So..... Did you get any good shots then :D I can't believe you didn't have a spare battery in the bag :shake:

Steve

You should have simply said "Take a chance on me " :) or offered him some "Money, Money, Money!"

I'll get me coat!

so you dident have a spare battery, and know shots of the film tut tut lol, no but really how stupid are they to even think you can get away with taking photos ina cinema. and your so right i bet many people have camera phones in the cinema.

LOL. Your nice small, quiet, inconspicuous dslr isn't allowed but the camera phones are! Gary the master criminal ;)

Its amazing what ridiculous things people come up with just because your camera is bigger than a compact isn't it.
I never let myself be parted with my gear either if i'm out with it.

Suppose you could have sat there with it on continuous shooting if you had plenty of batteries and memory. Then composed all the images into one huge GIF for those dirty pirates to watch without sound :D

But really...Mamma Mia? Watch Wanted instead :D outrageously OTT film but quite good.

apparently its a really good film gary ?

ive seen the theatre show and really enjoyed it. wheres your film review ? :)

Would love to have been a fly n the wall. Should have taken their pictures! Doubt I would have had the bottle to try it myself.

So how was the film? We went to see it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the fellas' sing was supposed to be iffy, it was obviously done tongue in cheek. Did you stay though the final credits? Many people left the cinema as soon as the film ended and missed out on a couple of hilarious ABBA send ups by the cast! :D

You could have said "I'm a TV presenter and I want to do a review of the low light capabilities of this camera I'm reviewing".

Embaressingly, I really enjoyed the film, much more so than my wife. Once you get over the initial shock of how cheesy it all is, was fun. Some very funny moments, and yes, we stayed until the end...

Those suits!!!

Don't be embarassed, embrace your ABBA side!

Cheesy is a good word for it, but I think it was deliberately done that way so it was all the better for it!

Did you really expect to be let in with it in a bag never mind around your neck?

As has been said, you need either a bigger bag or a better insurance company. They should cover the gear in the boot of your car or in the safe.

My missus wants to see Mamma Mia but no way am I heading out to watch that ;)

Apparently, most insurance companies will not cover unless in a boot which cannot be accsessed from inside the car. Ie, the only way to get the camera, is via the boot lid. Also, Insurance companies, do you ever want to have to rely on them? £150 excess for a start, why even risk it?

I have the Lowerpro Computrekker, its massive, enough for the D200, D3 and about 8 lenses, but its overkill for out and about in town.

I don't see the problem still, if I can take an N95 with its swanky 5mp camera and video recorders, I should be allowed to take my D3 which is useless for recording a film.

If I had left fromn home, the camera would have been locked up in the house.

Gary.

It's all about perception and risk though. They perceive you to be a risk of recording the film and they have a policy to stop that. If they fail to adhere to the policy then they could potentially face fines or loss of licenses. From their point of view why should they risk it for you?

It could have been a video capable camera, if you don't know about camera's then how are they to know? I can see your point I guess but it's not something I would have tried personally.

I also called my insurer and they cover gear in the boot as long as it has a parcel shelf in place [i.e. not accessible from the cabin]. So hatchbacks are a go :)

I have one of those 7 seater scenics, so no parcel shelf, perhaps thats why i knew of the rule. Agree with you too, but if we are being pedantic, the warnings before the film say USING photographic equioment is against the law, not having it! :)

I think it would be best for me to just leave at home next time :)

Gary.

Ah, had the same with the FreeLander, was looking at a peli hardcase to permanently secure in there for holding the gear then decided to sell it on.

Heh :)

So your average thief isn't smart enough to press the wee button that folds down the back seat?

Mine is located in the boot so they would need to access the boot to drop the seats in order to access the boot.

I think it's more 'outta sight outta mind' than the ability to steal it

Gary... you just like causing trouble you !!!!

Scott.
:D

after your recent fame couldn't you have loudly stated "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM!"

or
"Leave my camera in your care - Voulez vous?"

Or you could say......
If you don't let me in......"I'll call the BBC" ...I know a few people there!!!!!.....
