I've only just noticed that this is on tonight, so thought I'd post a heads up (couldn't see another thread about it)...

BBC4 10pm Sunday 17 September.

From the day it was created in 1947, Magnum Photos has represented some of the most famous names in photography whose pictures have come to define their times. But Magnum's work also includes more surprising images - pictures of cinema. This film recounts this remarkable collaboration - from Robert Capa's photos of Ingrid Bergman and Eve Arnold's intimate relationship with Marilyn Monroe, up until today with Paolo Pellegrin's portraits of Kate Winslet, providing an essential history of both cinema and photography.

This was an enjoyable documentary, although It would've been better had it been longer (maybe as a three-part, three hour series) as it was frustrating to see wonderful photographs presented for just a few seconds each on screen.

My favourite bit was the anecdote about the iconic Sean Connery Bond photo, which I'd not heard before.

During the photoshoot, no-one remebered to bring a gun. Luckily, the photographer had an air-pistol with him that he used for target shooting, so the iconic picture shows James Bond holding an air-gun, and it then went on to be used for the movie posters. :)

Thanks for the heads up - recorded it and started watching...a great documentary, love seeing how the masters work.

Very much enjoyed it and some incredible photos. Dennis Stock's James Dean photos in particular are incredible and iconic. I'll have to get around to watching Anton Corbijn's 'Life' at some point.

Timed quite nicely too as I've just finished reading Capa's "Slightly Out Of Focus"
