I was thinking of purchasing a Canon 100 F2.8 L macro form the above. Their site gave £620 and when e-mailed confirmed the Canon cashback offer was applicable. Before parting with my money I did a little research. Basically they operate from a mailbox in Wakefiled and are based in Hong Kong. If you Google their telephone number you get a Hong Kong company called Repton International. There is no mention of Churchill Conrad on the forum but Repton is the subject of a number of threads. So if anyone is thinking of buying from them please check them out. Ken

the naming style of the company automatically rings alarm bells...

i didnt even have to look at the churchill conrad website to link it to a couple of other dubious companies

google for middletonbanks or alexandertrent

and wonder why someone has to keep creating new companies/websites

Checked the domain name and it is registered via a proxy (Godaddy) with the actual registrants name withheld.

Sadly I was duped by these people only last week. Didn't do any diligence and am now out of pocket to the tune of £860. More the fool me!!

I have googled them/called them and e-mailed them with no human repsonse at all the bank are now on to it but.......

....a fool and his money.

Unfortunately there are plenty of similar stories involving similar sellers. In this day and age it is easy enough to check on these companies before parting with hard earned cash.

Godaddy is another sign to watch for, it seems they are the hosting company of choice for scammers.

I'm not sure you are correct on this one as Godaddy is a very reputable company. I purchased my domain name from them 6 months ago and found them to be very professional.

I'm not saying it's Godaddys choice but of the scam sites reported here in the last few years the majority have been hosted there. It's a link in the chain if you're trying to decide whether a company is legit or not, as far as I'm concerned if a site looks like it might be iffy and I find the host is Godaddy it's another mark in the negative column.

Please make sure that you only post FACT in this thread.

Your co operation is appreciated.

I orcdered a Canon 5D Mk3 on the 27th of November. I waited until my birthday on 9 December to open the box. When I loaded my first 60 photos into lightroom I noticed that the photo number started at 9438 and that the copyright author and details had been entered into the camera and thence into the exif information.
The only explanation for this is that the camera has been used prior to my receiving it.
Churchill Conrad refuse to do anything about this saying :

"Hello Geoff
We dispute that the camera is not brand new and under Distance Selling Legislation the cooling off period passed some time ago.
We have sold thousands of items and never sold an item which was not brand new.
Regards

My credit card company say there is nothing they can do because I have used the camera!
This is a no win situation for a purchaser as you have to use the camera to find out that it has been used already!
I'll stick to companies I know are long lived in future. I think the Internet is becoming a bad place to purchase and we may see a reversal back to the high street.

Bit late for this advice but in your case you should have tried it out when it arrived. I'm a bit uncertain about your CC company's response though, how could you possibly have known the cameras was pre owned until you used it?

Yes I've learnt a lesson about checking purchases on receipt. However, the fact remains that Churchill Conrad sent a used product and they must have known it was.
Knowing something about photography I was able to pick up the evidence of pre-use but many purchasers would not have questioned the file numbers and never looked at the exif data showing that copyright information had been entered.
CC are therefore a very suspect organisation and I certainly will steer clear of them by a mile! in future and look for connections with them from any future suppliers.

Any more reviews on this website ordered a MacBook not so long ago and reading these comments are making me suspicious..?
