Yes
I took a set of 'portraits' and general shots of my sisters' 3 month old girl the other week. My sis said that not to waste my ink and paper and just put them on CD and she'd go to Asda for the printing.

Fair enough, one cd later and off she went. Spoke to her yesterday for the first time since and she had trouble getting Asda to print them. They stood there and argued the toss that these photos were 'too good' to be anything but professional and they wouldn't print for copywrite reasons. :woot: :woot: I thought - my shots are being called professional looking - ok by a chap on the photo counter at Asda - but what the hell, who cares. :)

Anyway, my sister stood her ground and the guy asked the manager and they eventually printed the CD for her - after talking about 30 minutes to discuss it all.

I've read elsewhere of Asda doing this - I suppose they are protecting themselves from any kind of legal action for copying professional photos - but if they are quite reasonable prices for printing, I was thinking of taking my prints there instead of using all my expensive ink and paper. Although if I have to stand there and argue the toss that the photos are mine, then is it really worth it do you think?

What a great compliment! On the other hand, I don't think I'd bother if you were to get the hassle each time. Might be better trying somewhere online?

Just how cheap are they then? I (and a vast number of others on here) use photobox - excellent quality, fast turnaround, and 10p a print for a 6" x 4".

Nice compliment though! :)

Not sure on the price from Asda - and I haven't seen the prints she had done so I'm not sure on the print quality yet - need to see them before I think about using the store obviously. :)

Nice complement  . Might try it myself to see what they say  .
Asda also offer canvas prints, can't remember the prices but at the time they looked ok, quality  ?

Lol I can just see it now, everyone sending cd's to asda to see if they are good tog's
I would be chuffed to bits if they said that about mine.

Believe me scraggs - I thought mine were 'just snaps' to be honest, hence why I haven't put them up on this site. When I get home I'll have to re-visit them and put one up to see what you guys think.

I did some at Jessops a few years back using their selfserve computers at the front and the sales bloke was more than interested and commenting on everything I was putting in. He asked if I was a pro too. I just laughed !

From the quality I've seen from many in here we're considered pros by many in a camera store I would think..

Here's one of the prints I was talking about

Well if I was your sister, I would have just hit back with "Well what if I was the professional?"

My local Asda requires me to sign a disclaimer every time I ask for a print which they consider 'professional' looking. I thought it was a compliment at first though the effect is wearing thin now.

Well it's a compliment, but they're right to be a bit careful. I was once approached by a couple with all the proofs from their recent wedding. They wanted me to copy and enlarge the lot and remove the 'PROOF' stamps across the images. They had no qualms about ripping the wedding tog off.. big time.

I refused of course and told them by the time I'd done all that they'd be better off just paying for the photos.
