If you live in the north west; just don't go banging your head whilst you're out this weekend and I should have a quiet sunday:bonk:

I knew there'd be one of them people on the dole on here. :tsk:tsk: :roll-eyes:

Just kidding, oldboy. Glad to hear you're enjoying your retirement since 1998 and still keeping yourself busy! My dad's just retired this month and we (his children) are all worried that he'll get bored! He doesn't have any hobbies or many friends.

I've only got X'mas and Boxing day off so it's a 4-day weekend for me. I'm part of the skeleton crew in office 27-29 December. Then another 3-day weekend for the New Year and back again on the 2nd of January. :sigh:

Kamion.......I bought a Computer to retire with, didn't even know how to switch it on when I got it home, with books from library and computer magazines I gradually learnt to work it ....then went onto the net and have never looked back....Honest best buy of my life...

Must have this year done 75% of my Christmas shopping on it too....Brilliant.:)

I've got to work until 5:30 on Friday, back in the following Wednesday for the 3 days, then back to work on the 2nd.

No rest for the wicked, or me!

Working till around 2pm friday (finishing today in about 5 minutes though) off next week, back Tuesday the 2nd.

I'm one of about 3 people who are in the building tomorrow, thursday and friday. woo. ;/

I'm working 6 days, finish on Christmas Eve, then back on 27th for 6 days including NYE & NY Day, then off the 2nd & 3rd.

And the railways get criticised in the 'news' papers for not running a service on Christmas day! What about the families of the shiftworkers who work the other 364 days a year 24 hours a day? :annoyed:

Grr. Rant over! :D

The government keep saying use public transport and then the Railways close down for two and half days !

Apparently the Dutch Railway runs a Sunday Service over the Xmas period...

I'm off at the moment but back to work tomorrow for the last official work day, I'm on lates and we plan on getting a big Chinese takeaway in. Then I'm working overtime on Thursday through to Sunday, off till more overtime the following Saturday and Sunday then off Monday and back to work again Tuesday. Working the Thursday and Friday this week will give me an extra couple of days holiday anyway which I can take anytime before the end of March.

Last trains Ashford/London on Christmas eve terminate about 2200.
Services restart 0800 Boxing Day.
Last Eurostar into London arrives 2000 Christmas Eve.
Services restart 0800 Boxing Day.

Two and a half days?

I'm sorry, but I think that non-essential services should close down for at least one day a year on Christmas Day.

Christmas Day is about spending it with your family, not travelling to/from.

Hey, why don't we open up Tesco so we can all go shopping on Christmas Day too?

It's bad enough that Emergency Services/Energy Suppliers/Water Controllers/Hopsital staff/Prison workers etc etc etc all have to work over the festive season.

The French also run a train service on Christmas Day. But maybe in Britain we prefer to put Family first. Is that so wrong?

Finish on the 22nd and am back on the 8th of Jan. With any luck I won't be doing much in the way of work for the rest of this week and we'll knock off early on friday... fingers crossed.

I'm inclined to agree with ajdesq.

Maybe its just me looking through rose tinted glasses with the eyes of an adult, but memory of a child, but I think everywhere should close for christmas.
I remember times of absolutely nowhere being open at all. You were guaranteed to run out of bread. Guaranteed to almost run out of milk. You were almost forced to stay with your family...lol

You were almost forced to stay with your family...lol
Nooooo!!!!
What a terrible thought... nobody's hogging my remote over Christmas!

Theres always the flipside to this too thogh, there are some peeps who will be alone, and a time like Christmas is can be hard to bare when you have no-one to share it with.
Little do those lonely souls know that there are bickering famillies up & down the country would give theire last Brussel sprout to trade places!
And the upside to the sad & lonely coin is .... you can be first in the queue at Nexts boxing Day sale!!!

Quite agree Marcel, Having said that the emergency services would have to run as we all know why.;)

Who in their right mind is going to queue for hours in the cold for that special bargain..

Not me for one..

Serves me right I shouldn't believe what I read in the papers !!!:cuckoo:

They said no trains...

Always used to be no trains on Christmas Day and then Sunday service on Boxing Day that seemed to work well...

Don't tempt Tesco they might just do that

I suppose we can all be thankfull that traffic wardens don't work on the two days

We finish on Friday (fingers crossed we'll be in the pub from lunchtime!) and go back on the 2nd. Not quite so long as recent years, but still a nice break.

I should finish at 5.00 PM on Friday and back to work on Wednesday, but due to having a bad back I have a sick note from the doctor for this week so holidays started early for me.:(

Serves me right I shouldn't believe what I read in the papers !!!:cuckoo:

It's got to the stage that I won't buy 'news' papers anymore, but I'm not above reading ones that have been left on the train! ;)

And I know that only a few lines have a service on Boxing Day, I just happen to live on one of them. I agree that more trains should run on Boxing day... two nights would be enough for most people forced to stay over with families against their will! :bonk:

Of course, the 'Lonely' vs 'Disfunctional Family' discussion will always exist, but is this because the media portray unrealistic expectations of what fun everybody else is having (even when many are not?). And, with the media, we go full circle back to the beginning of the post...

And despite the fact I'm only off for 2 days, there are 2 sides to every coin. I'd rather take my leave in the summer when I can go surfing, than be told I have to take it at a time that doesn't always suit me.

But good for those who are going to enjoy a couple of week's R&R.

Finnish Friday and go back the day after Boxing Day.

Disregard this post, I am stupid..:geek:

finish 10am friday not back in till 3rd jan 2007:woot:

Got an emergency project due in for the 27th  Not at all pleased about having to work over christmas but I'm attempting to get the money together for home improvements (& a new drumkit ):D
Hope everyone enjoys their time off & has a great Christmas & new year
