I love Christmas and I love Christmas cake. So which one do TP members prefer?

Having lived in Italy this is the argument like Nikon vs Canon etc.

For me, it's panettone :)

You should add Roscón de Reyes!!!!!
Good point, although I've never had one. I would like to eat one. Looked amazing.

Ps. I think we were watching the same programme. It really triggered my memories, and we have a lovely (well I hope) panettone waiting at home.

Gotta go with the Yuk option as there are no jaffa cakes :D
And to prove there is no hard feelings added the Roscón de Reyes

Oh cock. How could I have forgotten. Give me a minute.

You can change your vote now :)

Used to make a very rich, booze filled cake but haven't bothered this year. Not sure what the one we've been gifted is going to be like but it feels good and heavy! Carluccio's look well overstocked with panettone so we may buy one of them when they're knocked down in price!

My ex MIL was Italian so we used to have Panattone every year.. yummy

I don't like marzipan and icing much so don't buy any kind of xmas cake. I usually get a couple of deserts like pavlova and profiteroles and that will do

So i guess other would be my vote

You don't like Christmas cake? Man you're weird!!!! :D

English booze filled cake is the only real Christmas cake.
Anything else is a pretender here.

Home made one by the father in law

Stollen. Not on your list either. I'd have it any time of the year though, especially with marzipan bits in it and ice cream on it.

Any kind of fruit cake is yuk to me. Our Christmas "cake" is actually a Baileys and Chocolate Cheesecake. This year, the one we'll have on Christmas Day will be the third I'll have made in a week as @Andrewrallye wanted some to take in to his workmates, then I took some in for my workmates. I'm fed up with the bloody thing already!
A couple of years ago I did a sponge cake covered in white icing in the shape of an Igloo. Was quite fun, so I might do something like that again :help:

Aldi do some lovely little stollen bites :)

Proper Christmas cake. Heavy fruit with cherries & nuts, fed with brandy over a couple of weeks, with 1/2 inch of marzipan & topped with luvverly thick, semi-soft icing.

I also like panettone & stolen. (we had one of those last week as a pre-Christmas cake)

I am also weird, I don't like Christmas cake. Marzipan and Icing are both far too sweet and sickly .

All of the above?

Although I don't eat a lot of cake, we always have a trad British one home made), and I usually get a Panetone, but I'm the only one who likes it, so I've tried to discourage the Mrs from getting one the last few years.

Since there's no specific "ALL OF THEM!" option, I went for "Other", meaning all of the above and below!

Sod the poll..give us a list :D

:D

- Well today I've just delivered a home-made lemon and mandarin gateaux over to my mum's. That's my traditional contribution ready for the family get-together on Boxing Day.
- I've come back with a small piece of her traditional boozy Christmas cake for our Christmas Day. (Not worth me buying a whole cake because with just the two of us most of it would go out for the birds.)
- One of Darren's friends is a pastry chef and we have a lovely handmade chocolate ganache log, which is my offering for any guests we get over the Christmas period.
- I also have some Kransekake here from my Norwegian friend.

I'm quite a big fan of Panettone too, but I'll be going without that this year unless it's on offer at any of the family/friends' houses.
None of the family are huge fans of all that thick marzipan and icing on Christmas cakes, so the boozy fruit cake that we usually go for is more this sort of variety :

My favourite is a slightly undercooked heavy fruit cake, done so that the centre is barely seized by the cooking. I'll also happily eat the marzipan separately straight from the block. :)

Does anyone else here have their panettone with a glass of chilled spumante? Dip the cake in the sparkling wine and then eat the dipped section - it takes a fairly plain cake to the next level. :D

I am not a drinker of alcohol by any stretch but I am a fan of fruit cake and I remember eating Christmas cake one year that had been laced with booze.... lets just say I was a tad ill after eating a slice or two
