I’m after some good photography book suggestions for Christmas. I’m forever being asked what I would like and I think a 5Dmk 3 is a bit out of most peoples Christmas budgets.

I’m thinking of either some good technical books or some good portrait or collections, that sort of thing.

I already have the following:

Technical:

  • Understanding exposure
  • The speedlighters handbook
  • Light Science and Magic: An Introduction to Photographic Lighting
  • Scott Kelby box set
Collections:

  • 100 suns 1945-1962
  • Full Moon
  • The Heart of the Great Alone
  • Don McCullen
  • The eye of war
Thanks Guys and Gals

'The Photographers Eye' by Michael Freeman is quite good

What about any of the AA Landscape/Wildlife/Garden photographer of the year collections?

The Scott Kelby digital photography books are good as well (think there's 4 in the series now). Ideal nuggets of information, one per page, for sitting on the throne and reading.

Zac arias I think that's how u spell his name does a cracking DVD called the one light tutorial I love it. Or something I'm looking into getting myself is a DVD by Peter Hurley called perfecting the headshot or something like that. There not cheap mind but very informative. Hope that helps

Any of Michael Freemans books are worth getting, the same goes for Ross Hoddinott.

Light Science and Magic-Fil Hunter, Steven Biver, Paul Fuqua is a brilliant introduction into using light and is a must read imho.

Got some of Scott Kelby's stuff, good but only if you like his style-read the blog a bit first to see. Mc Nally and Ziser also good. Heard good things about Shooter (Shooter: Combat from Behind the Camera Stacy Pearsall), Scott Bourne's "if you buy one book buy this" recommendation, plan on checking it out myself. Good luck!

I quite like the books by Steve Sint. Well written, in depth and a great resource.

I got Eve Arnold's People last year, lovely book
