I think that just about everyone (the government, press etc) were very unfair to her at the time, which because of my advanced age I remember well...
So, she was a prostitute, and Stephen Ward was her pimp. But, there was absolutely no evidence that she was "seeing" the Russian naval attache at the same time as Profumo, and Profumo himself had a long history of sexual misconduct with "unsuitable" women, that the governemnt either knew about or should have known about.
Both she and Ward were badly stitched up, and Ward was likely murdered.

I happen to know something about this because I know a retired judge who, at the time, was a junior member of the Ward defence team. As always, the government made themselves look good and made everyone else look bad.

I was 8 when the Profumo Affair hit the news!

It had everything, drugs, sex, Rock n Roll, MI6, MI5, Russians (cold war era)! I was already into politics in those days (family thing) and the local library was on my walk home from school so I had access to the serious broadsheet newspapers.

It seems we are a very similar age in that case,
I do remember some of it, the brown stuff / air circulator interface mostly.
(and of course "That" picture :D )

But Mandy Rice - Davies I didn't recognise the name, hence the google.

Nooo - all good now.

Was out the house at 4am and needed to check the locale of my destination (near Sidmouth) and everything working on the phone.

All done now and off to meet a friend for breakfast with a friend in Plymouth. Will have done all my visits by Monday then back to Ireland sometime next week before the madness of Christmas gets serious.
