chriseve1979's 2010 52 - Week 6 Present added

OK, week 4 "Street"

As I've had a bit of a relapse with my health this week, and the car failed miserably with its MoT (or would've done if put through the test system), I've not been able to get out. However we had about an inch of snow last night so it gave me a good chace to get a snowy scene of our street this morning.

I love shots like this, you can see the story of the day with the tyre tracks:)

Certainly pulled through the image by the tracks. Shame about the car and truck either side of the front of the image.

I like the way the tyre tracks lead you into this image and the whole thing looks crisp and clean. I don't mind the lorry on the LHS but the bonnet of the car, being right at the front edge is a bit distracting.

On the whole a good shot though, especially, as I am sometimes, you were limited by circumstances :clap:

I've cloned out my car bonnet, yes the truck does get in the way a bit - not just in the image but when reversing into the drive too! This really was only a 2 minute job - straight from the camera, no processing as the PC screen does affect my eyes at times. I am slowly on the mend so hopefully I'll be able to put a bit of efort into week 5!

I hope you're feeling better soon Chris.
And for a quick shot, this one has worked well. The road and tyre tracks really lead you into the image. Snowy scenes always look so crisp and clean and you've caught that well. Glad that you cloned the bonnet out too - a big improvement for me.

I'm liking all 4 shots! Really like the poetry shot, it's just too cute!

Get well soon Chris, as for the street shot, the cloned out bonnet helps. An excellent crisp view with the tracks really helping.

Thanks for all the comments and good wishes.

I have a trip to Stoke on Trent tomorrow to see a friend who also is a car mechanic to sort my car out so having seen this week's challenge is speed, I feel a motorway shot coming on...

OK here's Week 5 Speed.

I did my trip to Stoke and on the way home at night I had a go at a few shots on the A50 with the exposure set to 2 secs @ ISO 200. I originally planned to do them on the M6 but after all the trouble I had on the M6 going up I gave up on that idea as it wouldn't have worked in the roadworks @ 5mph. The camera sitting on the dash and all I had to do to set it off was press the remote as I'd set the menus to disable the auto switch off whilst stationary, so as not to be fiddling with the camera whilst driving.

This is the shot I chose as it was the one with the least camera shake. Not much PP here, just some subtle adjustments of contrast mainly.

And these are the rejected ones:

I like this one as it looks like a load of wavelengths going across the image (caused by an untimely bump!)

And the other less successful attempts (ruined mainly by drizzle on the windscreen):-

I like these Chris.
It's something on my list of things to try and I came very close to doing something similar for this week too.

I think I might actually prefer shot no.2.
That lucky bump has added a very interesting effect to the trails. As I said it's not something I've tried yet, but I'm wondering if they could stand to be just a touch darker around the outside of the trails. You may have been able to get away with ISO 100 or a smaller aperture

I like them too Chris. A good idea, I prefer the bump, it's definitly a waveform of some kind ;) in 2... It looks rather wet....

Thanks Sarah. Yes I think you're probably right on the aperture. I didn't get to review these until I got home so I might have another go one day. ISO 200 is the lowest my D50 will go.

Yes it was pretty wet John! It started off as snow then quickly turned to rain but it was raining for most of the journey home, all 220 miles of it!

Well here's week 6, present. Rather timely I thought as it's coming up to Valentine's Day on Sunday (for those that have forgotten!) I've based this week's image around the presents I have wrapped up for my wife.

This is isn't doing it for me, Chris, I'm afraid. The composition and lighting doesn't work. I think it's cool you have lots of gifts for your wife though!

great week 6, and a lucky wife by the looks!
Speed, i agree in that #2 is better, looks almost like a heartbeat monitor!

I think a slight change of angle of lighting and the addition of some negative space on the rhs would really strengthen the present image.

Phil

Good idea Chris - and you have a very lucky wife.

I agree with the others though, that it's not quite working. I think Phil has hit the nail on the head about the angle of the lighting - as it is it's just a bit too harsh on that shiny white paper. Perhaps a different coloured background too?

:agree:... sorry Chris... it's not quite there... I think it's the lighting...

Hi Chris. Just got round to looking at your 52. I really like Chopped- lovely bright and well presented. I like the 1st one best. Your swan certainly has lovely curves. The present might have been better if the paper was coloured but it certainly fitted the theme. I hope your wife loved her presents.

Looking forward to your catchup! If they're as good as your chopped shot, you're onto a winner! :)

Hi. Sorry all. I've had a lot on recently and with my health & finances not being up to scratch either I've not had any time for taking photos. I see I've got a few weeks to catch up on now so I'll have a go at getting some pics done.

Hey Chris, I know exactly where you're coming from... I last week posted three week's worth of pictures! There's no hard rules you know... chill and get better first!

Arthur

Looking forward to your catch up Chris, and I hope things get better for you soon.
Don't worry about rushing things either. Last year I posted a few filler shots just to avoid missing the (self imposed) deadline. This year I'm trying not to post unless I'm happy with it - even if that does make it a little late.

Thanks Sarah & Arthur. Latest is I'm now on 3 meds for an inflamed neck muscle & related trapped nerve, so having to avoid too much head movement. A slight issue with taking photos I find!

As far as I can gather I'm missing:

Week 7 People
Week 8 Mechanical
Week 9 ???

Hope you're fighting fit again soon Chris, and all gets sorted out. Look forward to the catch ups.
