Hi there! First post in these forums, but have been browsing here for a little while!

I could really do with some advice on a lens purchase. Looking to by a (low budget unfortunately... :( ) zoom lens and I've narrowed it down to these two:

1. Tamron 55-200mm f4-5.6 Di II LD Macro Lens

2. Canon EOS 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Tamron. It seems you get a lot more than what you can expect spending that kind of money(?). Only major draw back appears to be the somewhat fiddly manual focus, but I can live with that to be honest!

Are there any kind souls out there with experience of either of those two and who could let me know what you think?

Cheers! :)

Don't know much about these, but I've got the Canon 28-135 IS and this gets pretty good reviews and you should be able to get a decent one second hand.

Thanks!

Actually found a Canon 55-250 IS on eBay, so fingers crossed! :)

I'm a bit of a noob and I feel quite lost in the lens review jungle, so thanks for the feedback! :)

Cheers, me too! Just over 2 hours left on the auction, and winning at the moment! *fingers and toes crossed* Seller states it's only been used twice, and it looks very good!

Excellent lens for the money, bought one as a stop gap, but still haven't felt the need to buy a replacement

If it doesn't come with a hood its well worth buying one

Yeah, glad I came across this one. Hmm, not sure if it comes with a lens hood or not actually! Cheers for the tip. We currently have the 18-55 kit and a 50mm 1.8 and can hopefully add this one to the collection. We're attending friends' wedding at the weekend and if we were to hire something different, what would you recommend other than what we've got already?

Won the lens for just under £150! :) Thanks for the time and advice folks!
