Choosing a favourite photographr - who is yours?

I'd pick Michael Kenna as an inspiration - I am drawn to the ethereal quality of his work.

Also, Nick Brandt is another photographer who's work I greatly admire.

They are different in the work they produce, but similar in a way, if that makes sense ? I have books from both of these and often spend an hour revisiting the photos.
 
I'm a massive fan of Irving Penn and Robert Mapplethorpe

Can't argue with Brandt and Kenna either, and Kenna is still alive !
 
I am slowly working my way through the photographers everyone has mentioned (thanks for all those folks), and have managed to look at Brandt and Kenna. I really like their photos, particularly Brandt elephant throwind dust.

The Nick Brandt trilogy of books are well worth a look - they are "On This Earth", "A Shadow Falls", "Across The Ravaged Land". From what I have read, he was unhappy with the quality of the first book, so did a later reprint of the first and second combined into one book.
 
For me it has always been Tim Flach some absolutely stunning pictures and very inspirational angles
One of my all time favourites of his is the barcode zebra
 
Landscape photographers only for me here.
Big names I'm inspired by Patrick Di Fruscia, though his style of shooting is different to mine.
There are loads of smaller names out there that inspire me though, some on here too.
 
Bob Carlos Clarke - some amazing black and white studies - controversial but nevertheless his work continues to fascinate and inspire
 
No specific favourite, but I'm influenced by the work of most photographers that I've seen and if there's an exhibition I can get to I'll go and and that takes my fancy I'll go and see it whether it's a photographer I've heard of or not.

Last week I was fortunate enough to see exhibitions of work by Walker Evans (Martin-Gropius-Bau) and Gisèle Freund (Akadamie der Kunst) - I'd recommend both of these exhibitions to anyone visiting Berlin this summer.
 
Well, the person whose photos I look at most often are mine. But I'm rubbish.

Surprised no mention of HCB thus far. I'm not usually a big fan of 'street' photography (there's only so many "Hobo on a Bench" shots a man can look at and still be inspired), but he properly nailed it. Without hobos.

I'm normally more into looking at other artforms than photography (I'm one of those weird people who enjoy the act of taking the photo more than looking at them later), but one exhibition that really wowed me was Salgado's exhibition at the Natural History Museum.

This guy is doing what I have been trying to do for a while, except hes better than me :-(

First time I've seen his stuff though, and I think my bull ring shot is better than his. Is it bad that in some way I will be copying him now I've seen his stuff or can i say I'm emulating the style?
