Thought about this after reading this thread - https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/so-you-want-a-puppy.625322/

This is a link to the firat of two programmes about getting a puppy - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b07bkr3r

Well worth having a look at, I think. On the second programme one of the people on it paid £900 for a Cavalier King Charles spaniel/Poodle cross. This was from what certainly looked like a decent breeder, but that sort of money is going to attract dodgy breeders.

I couldn't believe the price for a cross breed.
As I said in the other thread my non pedigree black lab was £250 7yrs ago.

A decent breeder that cross breeds her bitch yearly :( and charges £900 a pup, I wonder how many other dogs she has churning out litters ?
The buyers could have got a fully health tested dog for less, heart rules the head again.
The Newfie people really are going to have to make a few changes, great to see they did their research but I dobt they are fully
prepared, a wet dog in the house/car, and all the newfies I have ever met seem to be a tad smelly even with the most attentive of
owners.
Would be good if they did a follow up to see how things turn out.

I know someone that breeds non KC registered labs for working, superb healthy dogs, he only breeds a litter when he needs
a replacement for one of his, pups are much sort after. Only thing is they can't do any official stuff like show or working trials
but none of the potential owners are interested, they just want a good working lab.
Your dog is still a pedigree just not a KC registered overweight caricature

I used 'decent breeder' as the place looked OK and did not look like a puppy farm, but I too had concerns about breeding every year.

I thought the couple with the Newfoundland were making a mistake but hope not and, yes a follow up programme about a year from now would be good.

I would use the term "Back Yard Breeder" or BYB. churns out litters for profit with no regard for the bitch.
There really didn't seem to be any connection between the breeder and the dog did there :(
