Bill, your recent references to what 'keeps mods happy' is both inaccurate and somewhat unfair, especially given I actually understood what you were saying and why you 'don't like them' - to censor such a comment would be like banning thought crime, even if I don't agree with you [you will note from my own comment that I think animal welfare is an issue in China, but it a separate one to whether the actual eating of dogs is 'sick' or not and is certainly not something you can tar all Chinese with]. I do think you left yourself wide open for many a comment by saying it, but that was your choice, not that of a moderator.

Another assumption

I never discussed or passed an opinion on eating dogs ………. or tarred all Chinese with anything

All I said was "don't like them" - (Andy and Lou fame)

and then added a qualification - "for what they do to animals" - which is well documented

As you know I posted the Andy and Lou Utube clip in another threat, you moderated and and removed it - it was mean't to lighten the thread up.

I have also debated the use of the word "Like" saying that it should be replaced with thanks as no crit is offered with like ………… or indeed it should be balanced with the word "Dislike"

For reference I did spend quite a lot of time in HK and Japan in the years 1985 to 1993 - 8 visits a year - although I have never been to China as the country was not really "open" at that time.

I don't mean to flog a dead horse here (and then eat it HA!) but your reasons for not liking the Chinese people are perfectly valid reasons for not liking British people, German people, Papua New Guineans, and so on and so on. That is all I was pointing out.

I could point out that now you are making wrong assumptions and misreading - my tarring them was in reference to what they do to animals, not eating dogs [though Wuyanxu pointed out earlier in the thread that not all Chinese do that either]. Your comment, with any reference, was an apparent sweeping statement, ergo people have drawn those assumptions, as I am pretty sure you knew they would.

Yes, your Andy and Lou you tube clip was removed by a moderator, rightly in that instance, wrong place wrong time scenario and simply appeared rude, not like an attempt to lighten the mood at all, but again, I have no doubt we will have to agree to disagree on that too.

ironically I may like the Chinese et al ……… as you point out I dislike people who treat animals badly

Generally I like the Japanese ……………. this should get a comment because I said I like the Japanese I like the Japanese who "do this and that"

I worked in Japan quite extensively over an 8 year period ……… but they could have changed

This is a "dog" of a discussion

so your reference to you was in the plural form (not the singular)?
 
Actually Bill, your "don't like Chinese" initial post...the syntax used...would indicate you dislike the Chinese because of how they treat animals. You dont differentiate between some or all. Therefore it reads as though you dislike all Chinese and that they all treat animals badly.
 
Just watch a programme about dogs and it seems that DNA testing shows it's probable that they originated from China and the surrounding area.
Perhaps they originaly kept them as food animals :thinking:

It may, to some mean the same, but please quote my actual words - I did not use many - it cannot be so difficult

I said "don't like them" - a quote from Andy and Lou ….. with the same implications ……… but what the hell

"them" and "Chinese" maybe the same, but I did qualify it …….. but misquotes are very typical of this forum and maybe that is ONE of the problem associated with the Bird section

Anyway - back on track.

It's a very interesting cultural phenomenon that people who happily eat piglets and lambs are "sickened" by people eating dogs.

I'm a meat eater by the way, and while I do squirm a little at people eating dogs or cats, or guinea pigs as they do in parts of South America, I recognise that my eating habits are actually no different.

I too had to Google them seems they are a "comedy" act
from "Little Britain"
I think I get it, now, it was a vain attempt at humour,
that no-one else understood.

You have absolutely no idea about the Japanese then, because my late uncle was imprisoned by them in Burma, and due to what he experienced directly - the humiliation, torture and murder of prisoners - he could never bear to be with any Japanese person afterwards.
 
Saying I like the...(insert nationality, ethnicity or religion of choice)

and saying I don't like the...(insert nationality, ethnicity or religion of choice)

are equally crass statements.

But to balance that up, I also had an uncle that was shot down, and spent the rest of the war,
in a Japanese camp.
That "generation" is all but consigned to the history books, there are very people living from those generations.
Do we blame the children for the sins of the fathers?
How far do we go back in history "hating" any race for the crimes against another?
The British were hardly whiter than white (sorry no pun intended) in its (our)colonisation of other countries
