Apparently this weekend the Chinese are having a dog eating festival?
There are some sick people in this world and to organise an event?
If true of course....
 
I'll play devils advocate. The Chinese obviously farm dogs for their meat. I doubt they whip Rex and Milly from their owners houses and chuck them in the wok.

Maybe it's a tad hypocritical for one culture that farms all kinds of cute animals for their meat to condemn another for doing the same.

As far as meat eating goes it's in for a penny in for a pound. I'm a meat eater. If I were in china I would probably eat dog. If I wore skinny fit jeans and shopped at Hollister I would probably eat llama which is farmed over here. Have you seen a llama? Cute as anything.
 
As a dog lover I still can't argue with what Norters says, personally I wouldn't want to eat dog meat but it is part of their culture
we may not agree or like the idea but we truly don't have the right to condemn them for it
 
Not remotely sick in China.
It's part of their culture.
 
If that is what people eat, it will be part of their culture ...

Twenty years ago when McDonalds first opened in Beijing there was a cartoon in The Times of two gents in Chairman Mao suits and one saying "I don't think much of this fast food. I ordered a hot dog and all I got was a sausage in a bun!" :D
 
I have eaten horse meat in France and enjoyed it. We are far to precious about things over here. If we were a bit closer to the real poverty line then we would be more realistic IMO.
 
Whilst I have absolutely NO desire to eat dog, it is part of their culture, in the same way eating bugs, grubs and snake is part of other cultures, all things I don't want to eat but understand that not everyone in this world is culturally or dietary the same as us. The welfare of such farmed dogs is another matter, but actually eating them, it is what they do.

There is some new legislation in the uk regarding the correct way to slaughter chinchillas for food.
 
Don't see the problem. Most of us eat meat, and also use animal products (leather). In france it may be horse, here cow, in China its dog.

Is it any sicker than eating squirrel, fish, lamb, chicken???

"Carnivorous" apparently taste pretty disgusting, well to our Westernised tastes anyway.
I think I'd rather eat (Try anyway) the Insects :thumbs:

You're right, there are some sick people in the world. Those that condemn, without thinking, other cultures and their eating choices.
 
I'd probably try it.. after all when in South Africa had kudu sprinkbok various other impala, zebra, crocodile, ostrich. Have also had smoked horse in Holland, smoked reindeer in Sweden....

Probably tastes a bit like chicken!

It's just something some people do. I find it hard to believe a topic titled "Chinese" covering over 1.4 billion people is about eating dogs. Vast majority of Chinese don't eat dogs.

Would you be happy to have a thread translated as "The British" in a Chinese forum talking about the lack of care for elderly. Far eastern culture takes far better care of their elderlies than western culture, most of households consists of 3 generations.

As a Chinese, I've been asked about this when I was young in state school. This kind of thoughtless questions have disappeared as I grew older and talk to more intelligent individuals. TP is somewhere I thought people have tact and are graceful with wording.

(see how it made you feel being tainted with the same brush? apologies to those seen the absurdity is this thread)

Why is it sick? To some people, a dog is a pet/beloved. To others, it's just another animal like cow, pig, etc.

Some people see meat-eaters in the same way that you see dog-eaters.

You can get horse meat (propper stuff not tesco...) in the uk... its quite cheap too.

so you have to meet all 1.4 billion do you to form a like or not like opinion - again such a sad example of a response and the mindless way some members can go OT to satisfy their inner desires
Am I "happy" to say it - or did I just say it …… you presume and imply that I am happy to "not like" the Chinese or indeed that "not liking" them makes me happy

Now in the space of two posting it's gone from me not liking the Chinese to really hating them and happy doing so and also inferring that I have not met many of them - unbelievable …

Must talk to my therapist about "the human condition in the Western world in 2014" - I await the next comment with happy anticipation

I said - Chinese - don't Like them! - (sorry need to be constructive - "for what they do to animals of all kinds")

Now any intellegent interpretation of what I said would be "I don't like Chinese who treat animals badly"

But for your argumentative purposes you are happy to go along with the statement "I really hate all Chinese and am happy to do so"

your interpretation and promotion thereof are what has led to the unpleasant aspects that have crept into our society …….. here's me now making (unwarranted) assumptions

But furthermore and maybe more importantly in the spirt of the forum you fail to understand were the expression "don't like it/them" comes from …. quite sad really

No matter how long I look at your original post does it interpret that. You could have said 'I dislike those Chinese that treat animals badly' and spared us all the confusion.

Well we the British treat animals just as badly. Men in silly suits hunt them for sport, we lock thousands of chickens up in small barns for their eggs and meat, we kill cute little lambs for the meat......... And on and on and on.

The Chinese farm dogs for food. Tell me why this is so bad. I really want to know.

I did not pass on comment on the British who treat animals badly or indeed the Maltese or Cypriots - again taking the thread into another space and inferences

All I said was "don't like them" - (Andy and Lou fame)

and then added a qualification, (to quite the critique Mods happy) - "for what they do to animals" - which is well documented

From what I said I'm made out to be a happy Chinese hater who can forgive the British for their cruelly to animals …….. the mysteries of the mind
