Has anyone got a Chimney Sweep/Clean before in his/her house and wish to recommend if the cleaner may have been good?

Do you still burn coal?.
I believe they vacuum the soot out now instead of bringing it down into your living room.

No Gal66, I don't. LOL.
Its more like a showpiece in the sitting room but it does need periodic cleaning and haven't got it cleaned since I have moved into this house over a couple of years ago.

my parents have an open fire in their house (so much better than gas, the smell, the heat and the fact you can burn stuff when you get really drunk!) and they've not had it cleaned in about 15 years, aparently the acid in the soot attacks the brickwork in the chimney and can cause more damage than good if you sweep it, although im not sure on this tbh!

chougs- get some nice seasoned logs (or some peet blocks if you can find them and get it used man!)

I have a solid fuel boiler and burn logs, scrap wood and sea coal. (actually it is the colliery waste that is washed ashore from when they used to tip it out at sea) or just about anything that burns. The sea coal can really clog up the flue. so all I do is get a really hot fire going with dry wood, full draught, and when I see plenty of sparks coming out the chimney that is the job done.
I have no neighbours to concern me with, and please, I will not get into any discussions on this issue from any "greens" on the forum:D. I do not have a mains gas supply and alternative fuels are just too expensive. I have an lpg gas central heating boiler I only use when I can not get the solid fuel c/h boiler going, that is run off two banks of four 47k bottles and is horrendously expensive to run:eek:

My father is a chimney sweep but dont think he would come down that far for one job:D:lol::lol:

can't beat a real fire, although it's just a log burner we have :)

"Just a log burner", we have one of those as well and it beats a coal fire any day:)
