Childrens party consent?

Good evening everyone

Quick question, I recently photographed a party for a friend and I didnt realise till I turned up that it was a childrens party.

To cover my own backside, I`d like to know is there anything I can give to the client in order to cover my back?

Its literally a photographed party put on disc, and then obviously being backed up but destroyed from my memory sticks

If your not keeping the files after passing them on to your friend, and your not I assume putting them online if your not planning on keeping the files then you don't need to give anything to your friend/client

Not that would need to give them anything even if you were keeping the files.

Unless your referring to a print licence to allow them to get them professionally printed as most decent printers should refuse to print unless there is proof that the person has the right to print for fear of breaching your copyright, but a simple letter or cover note would give right to print :thumbs:
 
Not sure why you think you need anything. If it was a commercial job and you are selling the images to to someone else, then you'd need need model release forms signed by the parents/guardians, but as the work will no doubt be for the organiser of the party, then you don't need to give them anything... except an invoice :)

If you are referring to protecting yourself against paranoia about paedophilia... stop being so silly. There's no law against taking pictures of children except in the heads of the ignorant... especially if you were actually invited, and being paid to do so.
 
Cover your own back against what? Did you do anything improper?

Indeed. And suggesting that you need to cover yourself just reinforces this paranoia in the minds of the ignorant (also known as Daily Mail readers).

Thanks for the reply guys. I have no intention on using the images for any other purpose. In regards to the party etc, I just wanted to protect myself as you never know what you get accused of these days.

When I say cover my own back I mean, protect myself.

the only issue you may ever have issues with is if a child is under protection i.e. child services within the government

but this would of been mentioned to the parents not to take photos of this child and if this info was not passed on its not your fault

i had something a few years ago with a football match i think there was too children under protection not sure why didn't want to ask

but child services told both team manager's not photos to be taken of these children they also approached me and we and a nice chat

once the photos for the day was taken all those where the child was in was deleted so no evidence of them at that match
 
I've photographed a couple of family members childrens parties and never came up against anything. I've also photographed the childrens party of a friend of my cousins. She approached me and asked me - I asked her to include on the invitation that there would be a photographer there and, should anyone not want their child photographed, to point them out to me on the day. It was fine, no one asked me not include their child and everyone had a great time looking at the photos :)

What do they do when they take them out in public, keep them under cover?

This really is paranoid nonsense.

Children under protection tend to be removed from the area the person they need protecting from is in - publish photos of them online and it becomes very easy to track down their new location. With the types of people in society nowadays, I don't find it paranoid nonsense.

I do. These people are few and far between and there were just as many of them before the media and social networking made a big thing of it, as there are now.

exactly the case

some of these children must go through hell

my cousins are both adopted and were both in special care / protection never found out why and to be honest would rather not but the best thing i think that ever happened was them staying with my auntie and uncle

The point is that today, with Facebook, twitter, and other social media it's much easier for someone to stalk, track down and harass a person.

If your child had been taken away from you, you could probably find them again eventually on social media if you were savvy.
 
not sure i agree with some of the statements on here i recently photographed some karate training shots but was specifically excluded from taking pics of one particular child (nothing to do with paedophiles the child was being "protected" for other reasons. so unless you are certain that no child present needs special treatment...... "protection" then you could end up in trouble. my question would be did the organiser inform the parents a photographer would be present and was consent requested/given. i know this is a can of worms and comments like"did you do anything wrong" don't enter into it. just my 2p worth mike.
 
Its such a minefield theses days,i used to take photos on outing for little one school for years to put in their little paper or school wall,then the teachers i been working with left,next outing i was doing what i always done,a new teaching assistant saw me taking the photos and said something and that was it,i didn't take anymore photos.

It turn out here was just training to be an teaching assistant,but he was a school Governor you only need the one :(

Anyway it turn out after he finished his training he applied for a job at the school,he didn't get it as none of the pupil liked him :D
