weekly ChickenDipa's 52 week 2012 Colour + Shadow added

You know what i think of this have just posted on your flickr :):) this screams pride to me, but i think you have to be from Yorkshire for it to do that.

I have to disagree with Andy, i can'y crit this, because i genuinely love everything about it:)

Nice one. I have to say I prefer York 4, because the box isn't cropped.

Nice depth to retain detail in the box, nice low angle, nice tea.

I'd just prefer the RH leaf wasn't there. I also suspect having a nice clean BG would improve.

Oh, did I say...nice tea!!

Cheers.

York 4 tempted me but for me I just liked this one better. This week I was genuinely happy with quite a few of my pictures which is a nice change after last week.

Thanks for the comments. Funnily enough I was looking at the picture whilst editing and I thought 'I dont think Andy will like this leaf'.

Yorkshire Tea is the best :)

Thank you!!!!!! Yeah I think it may get a bit lost on the non-Yorkshire folk.

Great work on pride Alex
I do like photographs which tell a story about the photographer.
The elements of the image come together well. The dof, composition and lighting all come together to make for a great photograph.
The leaf doesn't bother me at all, I think it holds that side of the frame in. The only thing I would say is that I would prefer to see the top side of the leaf but that is a very minor observation. Iain

Yorkshire Tea is the best :)

Well despite being a Yorkshire man I prefer Twinings myself :)

Not that either tea has anything to do with Yorkshire :D

Like the photo though fits the subject well.

Steve

I love this (I'm a Yorkshireman, desperate to get away from here :(). I think you chose the right one too; great DoF and composition.

Lovely work :)

Hi Alex,

Im going to sound like a wally now!!! You'll have to educate me...I get the yorkshire tea but not sure why the white roses are related to yorkshire?...we don't get out much in Norfolk!!!

As for photo, I like it, didn't find the leaf to distracting, but maybe a little bit more focus on the tea:)

Thanks, point taken about the leaf. It was only after I noticed it was the wrong way round but was happy enough to leave it.

Have you not seen the tea plantations in Harrogate??? :) Thanks for looking.

Lovely work :)

Come back to the motherland! Thank you thank you thank you. Very pleased with my pride shots.

As an honorary northerner (married a Yorkshire man now get mistaken for being from up north) I get it! Lovely white roses and great DOF but agree that a cleaner background would help here!

Does he still have his accent?
We need to get some nice backgrounds in our house. Never seem to be able to find the right place.

Hello, thanks for commenting. The white rose is a symbol of Yorkshire, heard of the war of the roses? Yorkshire is the white, Lancashire is the red. Started off as a the symbol of the House of York and then in time Yorkshire as a whole. There is a White Rose Day (10th June), should be a county holiday :) We even have a shopping centre called 'White Rose'. Its appears in quite a few things around here. My favourite...the White Rose on the sign coming back into Yorkshire on the M62.

Just spent a few minutes looking again and putting my thumb over the leaf, and I think Iain make a good point about the leaf acting as a frame and it does hold the roses together.

Cheers.

Had a hectic week and still recovering so not had chance to catchup or do short. Got an idea so will probably do that tomorrow when its miserable. Will do my catchup then too!

Catch up as usual
Soft - all three good although connection between shoes and marshmallow? The chocolate lab is best.
Pride - tea is one of the best for taste and rose spot on. Well executed shot

'Pride' very nice choice of DoF and focus. The white rose is certainly something to be proud of.

Nick

Sorry i thought I'd commented on this before Alex!

A great idea for pride - Yorkshire people are so proud of their county!

The focus and dof are spot on1

White rose/ Red rose - a difficult one - having lived in Yorkshire for 13 years and in Lancashire for 20!! Which ever colour rose we pass on the border I feel like I'm going home!!:)

Thanks for the comments John, Nick, Michael and Sarah! We are proud people and I must say I was very proud of this shot too! It jsut came together for me.

Short and Flight are incoming tomorrow hopefully, I'll then catch up with everyones shots.

Yes he's still got an accent but very watered down! He tone's it down (almost posh) when he's talking to officers! But one of his officers (who tries to hide his accent) hates him as he hams it up massively to make him talk northern!!!
Oh I used to get regular 'Barnsley' lessons when I first met his parents!

Visit hobby craft, A3 black & white card, sorted!

You can never shake the Barnsley accent! Its strange that I am only a few miles away from Barnsley but yet our accent is slightly different. I'd do that too, ham it up too!

We have done the card, we are after a fabric or roll bg so it can be the base too. Its on the shopping list!

Short - I took a few of these but not overly happy with the result so going to set it up again and try from a different angle. But here is the best of what I have taken so far.

Plleeeeeeeeeeassssseee pass me the ball, I'm too short :-( (well he could easy get it but hes not meant to!)

 my hubby would say otherwise, he always says he's lost his accent! But the fact people think I'm a northerner tells me otherwise! I'm not good enough to spot the local variants.

Short- I like the idea here but I think the dark dog is a little lost against the dark table! I'd also take the place mat off the table. Could you try a different angle? Maybe looking down from behind the ball but slightly above so all you can see is his nose?

Flight- superb catch! Lovely bokeh, composition and sharp where it matters:clap:

Hi Alex.

Short I agree with Marsha, plus I think it comes across more as "forbidden" or "waiting" than "short". A different angle could make all the difference.

Flight is wonderful; can't fault it! How long did you have to wait for that, and how many shots did you bin?!!!!

Short - I think you are right about the angle as it appears the dog is the same height as the table. Marsha's idea is a goodun and worth trying.

Flight - superb shot, great composition and well timed. Needs a caption of what they are saying to each other?

Short was definitely not a great one but I am going to try another angle. I got quite a few of the back of his head and him jumping on the table so called it a night!

I did not have that long to wait, was actually waiting for a Robin to turn up on the feeder in my garden. He is camera shy though, so looked for other opportunities and saw the green finch, was just taking snaps and then managed to capture the sparrow mid flight. I couldnt believe my luck  Our garden is a hive of small bird activity at the moment, its really nice! They bloomin quick though.

Caption suggestions welcome :-)

Hi Alex,
I like your thinking behind short, it is certainly an on theme idea but again another who agrees with Marsha. Marsha's suggestion for shooting behind the ball just seeing your dogs nose would be a cracker.

Flight is simply perfect, everything about it is just right. Iain

flight is excellent really nice capture, also like the idea behind short though I am not sure its quite right

Short, it's a bit......, but as a photograph I do like it. I bet he'd sit there for hours...waiting.

The table's just a bit too low for a great short.

Flight, nice movement and 'moooovve'...lol. I'd prefer extended wings but you did well to even get the shot. Not something I've done yet.

Cheers.

Short - I like the idea but I'm sure that table is just not short enough for the temptation of the ball not to get the better of Terry

Flight - Brilliant capture. I bet it took a bit of patience to get this one. The results have paid of though.

Hi Alex

Pride - good pov and dof. Would prefer less leaf on right (or glossy side up) . Good idea for the theme

Short - good idea but maybe not as well composed as it could be? Things like left hand edge of table, table mats, table legs seem to distract from the main point.

Flight - excellent capture:thumbs::clap:

Sorry not stopped by, thanks for the comments Iain, Michael, Allan, Andy, Mike, Peter and Alan!

Short is on the list for a reshoot. Higher table next time!

Intended to have authority done by now but the short week (shoot location is at work) and bad weather (also outside) has delayed it. Will get it done next week along side Leave.

Hi Alex

Sorry... looks like I have missed loads of yours :shake:

Soft - Ooooo Chocolate & trifle... I could eat that trifle now  Of the few shots I like that and the close up of the chocolate

Pride - Great shot that, great flowers and a real nice background, with just enough clarity to see the Tea box... nice one

Short - A nice idea, but think a shot from a bit higher would have emphasized the shortness a bit more, I like the B&W pp, and nice dof

Flight - Well caught, certainly in flight that one !!! nice background again

Thanks for the flight comments, seems so long ago!

I am working on catching up.

Authority - I was close to getting this today but my memory card broke and the pictures just were not writing to it. So I took one on my phone and its a bit pants do will have to try again.

Leaving - to do at the weekend!

Random
Last week I had an Abel and Cole veggie box delivered. I get them every now and again. I had said I did not want one of the veggies listed so another one gets selected at random. And this random looking thing turned up! So random on a few levels, random veg which is random looking!

I think you might be right about it being Kohl rabi good luck with that.:gag:

No it isn't, this is a Cool Rabbi:

Nice picture though; random certainly fits! I prefer the first one because I think it shows more texture, but I'd have liked a cleaner background perhaps.

Hi Alex, what an odd looking veggie! I like number one for the detail and two for the cleaner background (I agree with DK about cloning out the white light) But in both the outer edges of the veg are a little soft for me.

Mark that Cool Rabbi made me laugh
