Chicken or Egg

Jim - just ignore him , by his own admission in other threads he doesnt even have a camera anymore, and when he did it wasnt a 7D - some people just like to talk carp for the sake of causing discord

on the OP - decent lenses first , then a 7D later (though that said i wouldnt buy a 70-300is if i allready had a 50-250 IS - Imo you'd be better off looking to replace the kit lens with something better )

Indeed!

cause it's true. too many pixels with canons current sensor technology is not great. the 7d is a noisey camera

And how many pixels exactly does A77 have?! :cuckoo:

OP, I would suggest improving lenses first. Canon L telephotos are excellent. You should be happy with either 70-200mm (less reach) or 70-300mm (slower). TC unfortunately does make it look softer.

In the meanwhile let's hope canon will concentrate on improving 7DII noise (however 'good' or 'bad' it currently is) rather than adding more MP. Stay at ISO 200 -if you can!- and it should be pretty much perfect anyway.

I'd say it depends what you want from a new body, the 7D will give you better autofocus, speed and build quality but in terms of image quality you'd get the same upgrade from your 450D with a 550D, 600D or 60D.

Just to let everyone know , i splashed out on the 70-300 f4 L IS USM.

Thanks again for all the comments and suggestions.

Cheers

Steve

He's (POAH) not playing devils advocate, he's spouting rubbish about kit he's never even used, and knows very little about.

I used to do a lot of night club photography with my 40D. I wanted a change of camera and the 7d was not as good as the 40d. so for using a camera in low light with the requirement of high iso the 7D was not acceptable.

that my opinion from using it in a real situation.

And I found the 40D unacceptable and the 7D much better at high ISOs. Its only opinion and not fact! ;)

...I found the 40d unacceptable at 1600 iso at indoor showjumping, the 50d very good indeed at 1600 iso and the 7d even better at 1600 iso. That was at the same event, same place and same time with ALL 3 bodies, purposefully to test high iso, high speed shutter at low light sports. It doesn't get more "real world" than that, and as such I cannot accept anything you say in relation to these bodies.

That's MY own personal experience of all 3 bodies.

It's funny it's only you who thinks otherwise, and if someone else, based on their own experiences disagrees with you they have eye defects?

I know you're only out to wind people up, so I won't be posting anything in reply, and I'd advise anyone else to do the same!

not just me, only the canon 7d fan boys seem to think the high iso is better.

good high iso images don't just have low noise but they have to have detail - you don't get that with the 7d sadly

Ah bless, doesn't like to be told his wrong. Simply the 7D is better at high ISO than the 40D. Everyone else seems to agree! ;)

However being in a minority on such things often indicates you are wrong! ;)

Lol

I'd be curious as to how long you trialled the 7D against your 40D, Poah and any test shots that illustrate your point.

(of course i'll also be extremly suprised if any such shots with intact exif are forthcoming)

tried it side by side in a night club it was not for me and got a 5d2 instead

you probably still think the world is flat and the sun revolves around the earth.

Bottom line though is okay its not for you thats your perogative, and certainly there are many things that the 5D2 is better at than the 7D but that isnt the same thing as it not being any good for other people

and to flatly state that the 40D is 'better' at high isos is ridiculous when test shots in many reviews show that it isnt - also I have to wonder why if the 40D was so good , did you buy a 5D2 ?

I'd also be more convinced by your real life experience if any test shots survived to show us what you are talking about

3 important things to note

1)I am very tired and grumpy
2)I have early onset manflu
3) I have a 7d

the first 2 reasons make my patience threshold very low, the last means i know exactly how my 7d performs in low light

adding all these things together means that Poah, you need to move along to another thread because you're just trolling, and i dont have the patience to deal with your **** tonight.
