weekly Chevin's 52 for 2022 .... Week 42 ... Precision

A whole lot of history and tech in a box.
Meets the challenge very well.

Nice shot of wonderful tech of the day and a lovely description to help us along.

Great picture Duncan and great story to accompany it.

A fascinating story, and an interesting picture - thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the comment Paul, I'm a great believer in the old adage ... "every picture tells a story", I feel it's important to record history before it becomes a dim memory

Great back story... well, the bits I understand :) . Some nice warm tones captured too - gives it even more of a vintage feel.

Very interesting devices must be the height of technologies in them days. Well worth holding on for and thanks for the narratives.

Thanks Stan ... I have a small collection of books, tools & equipment used by enginewrights (chief mechanic) at the turn of the 19th century which I'm going to pass on to an industrial museum before I go.
Keeps the history alive

Thanks for the comment Helen, I tried to bring out a nostalgic feel to the image.
Understanding ... it's a steam engine anorak thingy so it's not the easiest thing to get your head round ;)

Good stuff - I used a planimeter like that in the early 80s when I worked as a surveror for the NCB :)

Technology then looked so much cooler than technology now. I really like the composition and the tones.

Thanks Oy ... I used a planimeter for quite a number of years when driving a drawing board, things changed when CAD systems became more available and were adopted. I was a bit of a luddite as I really missed using a board ... there was something satisfying about creating a finished drawing ... you always knew who had drawn it by simple looking at the style. Now it's all to a euro norm ... sanitised.

Technology then looked so much cooler than technology now. I really like the composition and the tones.

Thanks Nick ... to me there was a pride in developing a technology then, there appeared to be a nod to the aesthetics of the design and a pride in the ownership, not so sure about nowadays

My my, those tyres have been around for a long time.

Your last picture is very reminiscent of a road near me, and I live in a highly rural area, and that road concerned has almost no houses on it. Half the rubbish comes out of cars and the rest out of the recycling trucks.

Your picture certainly captures the sense of discarded, they must have been there for a long time.

you would think the farming community would care more for the environment.
Meets the theme and I agree with your choice.

An interesting set of images with some nice colour splashes ;) . I am never ceased to be amazed at where Costa cups end up - we get them around here and there isn't a Costa for about 18 miles!

Thanks Martin ... I know they have been there for at least 10 years

Thanks Simon ... yes quite a while

Thanks Peter ... as with everything in life there are good ones & there are bad/inconsiderate ones.

An interesting set of images with some nice colour splashes
Thank you Helen

The proposal by Boris & chums to reinstate chain gangs of miscreants and transgressors to clean up the roadside rubbish gets my vote ... as long as I can be Boss Godfrey

I'm quick off the mark this week :)

It's snowing and quite Baltic, the deer have scoffed most of the daff's, so these are the first flowers from a few orchid offsets I potted on 2 years ago

Discarded - looks like the whole area needs a good clean-up
Flora - love this, such beautiful colours.

Nice soft light and colour on the flaaaarz!

Lovely orchids... you've captured a certain luminosity on the petals.

The orchid shot is lovely.

Lovely orchid shot. The light really shows them off.

Thank you folks ... I much appreciate the comments :)

That's a lovely image for Flora, nice close up with plenty of detail and colour.

I love how the blooms seem to glow. Almost too bright, but not... If that makes any sense?.... Nope!

Thanks for the comment Nick. The image was taken in natural light which seemed to give the delicate flower a certain luminosity

The orchids look lovely against the dark background. Such beautiful flowers.

Thank you for the kind comment Bebop

Back to another hobby ... flytying.
This isn't a fly it's a mouse ... hence the unusual.
I first came across "mouse flies" when fishing in Alaska some 30 years ago where they are used in late summer when fish tend towards bigger food stuff as winter approaches. The mice try and swim across the river where they are intercepted by the fish.
It really works
The "fly" is spun deer hair with suede ears and tail, horse hair whiskers and button eyes. After it's spun it looks like a fuzzy budgie so you trim it to shape.

I've seen all sorts of fishing flies and lures (and used a few myself), but this is a first for me. Very unusual, and works brilliantly for the theme.

I knew this theme was going to bring us something interesting. Fascinating bit of info and definitely fits the theme. I would never have guessed what it was.

Nicely lit and composed

Great picture Duncan and another great story.

That is amazing... you certainly couldn't make it up :)

That’s a well lit and composed picture. Must be some bit fish to take down a mouse!

Thank you very much for your kind comments

A 2kg rainbow trout will easily scoff a mouse ... it's quite surprising what they can devour.
