Hi guys, can anyone recommend a good chest bag for my camera? Ideally it needs to be waterproof to some extent as I plan on using it while snowboarding in 3 weeks time! Will need to accommodate my d3100 + 18-55mm lens. Plus maybe my phone/wallet/keys.

I would just put it in a backpack, but backpacks are always a pain when on chair lifts it would also be a lot easier to get hold of my camera if it was on my chest!

Wouldn't recommend a front back if your snowboarding dude, catch toe edge and your going to crush your camera.

Any normal bag will be fine, just remove it on lifts.

Hmm. I've always thought that if its on your front if you are going to catch an edge on your toe edge you will always put out your arms to catch yourself. I imagine falling on my heel edge would have a higher risk of causing damage to the camera.

Also its always such a fuss using a backpack as you have to take it off, then open the camera bag etc. Especially when its freezing cold and you have big gloves on. :D

Personally I'd recommend a decent compact to slip into a pocket while boarding. You can get some good shots without the hassle of lugging your gear about. If there are specific shots you want to get you an always go back up the mountains without the board and concentrate on the photography (assuming there's a gondola back down again ;))
Where are you going too at this time of year?

I guess I could take my compact but I'm pretty set in my ways in wanting to take my DSLR on the slopes!

I'm going to alpe d'huez. I'm aware that the snow conditinos are not going to be great hence me wanting to take my DSLR to have something else to do on the holiday. :) It does have a glacier though so it shouldn't be so bad.

FStop do a chest harness, that goes with their bags, but personally I wouldn't use it for snowboarding (it's designed more for mountain biking), unless you are in deep power if you go over on your front you will either damage yourself or your camera, but more than likely both.

As mentioned about a compact in a jacket pocket is my preferred option for snowboarding, but I have ridden with my DSLR a few times, but always with a well padded rucksack. Rear opening rucksacks are best so that you don't then have to put the wet part of your bag back onto your back.

I really dont understand why people see a problem with chest bags? Surely if you fall on your back you cant really stop yourself from falling on your bag but if its on your chest you have your arms to fall on which will save the camera???

Anyway, found this bag -LINK

Has a rain coat, but cant really find any video showcasing it. Does anybody have a Lowepro Toploader Zoom 55AW and let me knowif its easy enough to access the camera quickly with the rain cover on?

Cheers!

If you fall at speed putting your arms down is going to do some damage. I've landed on my avalanche transceiver a few times and it wasn't comfortable.

I understand there are risks to it, and appriciate the comments but I'm pretty stuck in my way now that I still want a chest bag for the awesome ease of use mainly!

Thanks though.
