Well seeing as everyone is just saying the same thing and that I said that I was trying to fix it.

Everyone keeps saying the same thing and nothing about the looks, just that it is slow, which is why I'm trying to sort it!

If people were giving me help like Tomas Whitehouse then the site wouldn't be slow as I'd be trying different things to fix it!

Ok so lets get constructive ...

What bandwidth have you purchased from the host or is it a free package? The initial issues are down to the size / resolution of the logo and other associated images. But everything slows down as soon as an image is called.

I take it the site is with a US company judging by the Ripe allocation details but nothing looks amiss [bar some slow down on the transit hops] from MTR's.

It simply looks to me like you have very little bandwidth with the supplier and they are throttling the site. Do you have the details of this?

Most people, myself included have said they think the content is good.

Space Usage: 5000MB

Monthly Bandwidth: 300000MB

Max File Size Upload Limit: 8MB (8192KB)

nice site what annoyed me was that i had to click on the image then click back to open another! could do with backward and forward arrows to make scrolling easier, and perhaps a little to slow for this modern age.

Mouse over the image in either the top left [for back] or top right [for next] links :)

So it's not a problem with the allocation then. It's either the total traffic to the server causing the slowdown [i would imagine this is a shared server] or they have throttled your traffic down to compensate for their smaller uplink. I would suspect the latter though unless they have seriously oversold their services.

I like the site and it's content but if you are using this for showcasing your work you need to find another host. Do you need free or cheap hosting?

Oh and for the bandwidth pimps out there I'm on a redundant 1Gb uplink ;)

ETA: And if you check 110Mb's 'featured sites' then anything text orientated is fast as f00k but image heavy ones are snails :(

Yea free or cheap hosting. There is a lot of talk on there forum about slow sites and they say it's mainly down to the Box13 (which is what I'm on) reaching it's monthly bandwidth limit and sites will be slow.

To add my input.

The thumbnails are too small, i know you have already mentioned that this cannot be helped due to a scroll bar problem, but there must be a way around this. The thumbnails don't give a good idea of what the picture will be. Also when the pictures come up after clicking the thubnail, they are a bit small.
It seems like there is a lot of wasted space. I think the area used for the thumbnails and picture on home page should just be a bit bigger. This would also allow larger thumbnails.

Now i do like the home page picture, and the about me section is nicely laid out with a good size picture beside it. It's a suitable colour scheme and a stylish overal design.

This will always be the problem with free hosting I'm afraid. Are you using this to sell images or just to showcase your work? What have you written the site in?

Is Box 13 a testing place only... do you know?

Do they say all will be fine when you actually host the site proper.... ?

If its for testing only then thats quite fair and normal for them to have loading limits ...

Just a thought. :)

I wrote the site in Dreamweaver and it has got some CSS, Java an html coding. The site is mainly just to showcase my work not for selling

I can loan you some unix space if you want to tweak the site on a reliable host ;)

I didn't find the website slow, and I'm on a 20mb/s connection getting around 17mb/s.

But yeah looks good.
I'd prefer to have more images in the galleries, and I don't think the thumbnails do you any favours.

Plus I don't like having to exit out of one image and go into another, I'd prefer a 'next/back' button.

But yeah. Looks good, minimalist and snazzy.

My thoughts are:

At the min, no images are loading up - only text, image folder moved? The information about the different galleries i.e. what they are, i think, should be on the main page. As they are, I had to look on the about page and then see what they are. Maybe they should be on the front page?... And there is that slight speed factor, but we wont go into that :)

Hello

Accessed your site from Work at 12:30 on a Monday morning.

Site load up time was slow plus I was also getting "red" X icon when I went back into the site for a 2nd time.

As you have a space at the bottom of each image why not but back forward arrows there? so it just loads a template.
I like the images they are very fine but I run my monitors at min 1280x1024 and the images are small. If you click on one of the thumb nails then I think it should open to at least 800*600 in size, then you can fully appreciate the image.

Links, I see you have links in the bottom of the images, instead of the link launching within your browser why not launch it within a new tab?
That way I can still look at your images and then look at the link later, saves going back and forth.

Layout and colours used are good and high-light the bright colours of the skate boarders etc

UPDATE NOTE I have just been on another forum which is quite image intensive and it is being slow to load up so might be a case of a large cow sitting on the line somewhere slowing everything down.

Some stuff is getting re sorted so that is why red X's will be on the site for a bit.

I'll also have a play around with Lightbox and image size to make it more appealing. That link idea is very good, I'll see if you can do that.

Thanks

There is a next back button. Scroll your mouse over the top left and right of the photo and the button is there.

h4rri - That would be very kind :) If thats okay

PM'ing you the details now. Don't use it for anything so you are welcome to use it for a while :)

I got the PM but it the site is no longer there :(:(

Yeah thats my index page, do that on them all to track interest when I shut them down. FTP your files up there using the details in the PM and yours will show :)

I managed to read all of the messages below your link and I'm still waiting for the pics to load! From other peoples reviews though it sounds like it'll be worth the wait, but sadly it won't be from a clients view.

OMG it takes forever to load. I gave up!

I've been sooo stressed out :bang:

I know some stuff still needs tweaking but now that the SPEED issue is gone (touch wood) it should be find.

Welcome to my world! Seriously, it's looking real good and it loads pretty damn fast for me. Oh yeah, the photo's are good too!

You'll find that you'll end up modifying every now and again, especially when you learn new things and have ideas. My first web site was as bad as that 7dayitchybeardbargains and after a month or so of reading, it got better and betterer.

Well done Matt. Turn off the computertater and drink a nice cold one outdoors.
:thumbs::thumbs:

Much much much much better!!!!!
Beuatiful pictures too!!!!!

humungously faster load times - much better Pings have gone from 130ms+ down to 8ms aswell :)

some great photos to.

would be better once larger thumbnails are implemented and a persistent prev/next button rather than having to hunt for them

keep it up

Gary

good job dude, it almost looks as good as your photos ;)

only thing i dont like is the thumbnails for the photos are different too the actual picture which makes it annoying looking through imo, but theres probably a good reason for it
