Cheltenham Photographer flattened by horse

I suspect this will produce some more nagging health and safety rules

:coat:

Looks nasty, the fencing did nothing?

I'm pretty sure that the fences are intended to be "break away" like that - mainly for the protection of the horses and riders - coming down on a totally solid, concreted in place fence at the speed they're going wouldn't bear thinking about...

if you look at the video, they're held in place with what look to be flexible flat uprights driven into the turf, with a plastic pipe that fits over, and the fencing fastened to the pipe - the fencing also appears to be sectional so it will give at pre-determined points to give as much protection as possible to the horses and Jockeys... Really, the fences are more to channel the horses in and out of the fence rather than anything to shelter behind, so I'm not surprised at all

Exactly, they arent there to 'stop' anything, as such (just as some thin tape wouldnt actually stop a horse escaping from a paddock). They are pretty much just there to guide the horse.

*Edit* I hope the camera made it out uninjured
