Hi Everyone, having recently got back into photography and got the bug big time, I finally need to learn all about post processing etc..

anyway I realise what people like is generally a subjective thing, but I messed around with this and personally I really like it, but it doesn't seem very popular with anyone else and I'm trying to understand why etc.

soo honest C & C welcome.. reason I'm asking is I've been asked by my brother to do some shots of his horse for his gf for xmas but Im such a noob,do you think this style looks cheesey?

Honestly?? It doesn't look good.

The reason people will dislike this is that because the horse looks as though it's badly superimposed onto the background.

The sudo Infra Red look works for some images but not for the majority. Generally speaking it works for landscapes and similar provided there is no "organic" subject matter.

With something like this I think you are better off keeping it fairly conventional. By all means convert it to monochrome, but watch the background as the subject could be lost within the foliage if you do.

The processing doesn't work for me...
Also (in my opinion - but I'm no expert...) its not an amazing composition of the horse... I think he would look more majestic with his head up if its going to be a present that hangs on the wall.
Do you have the opportunity to go and shoot again - or are you just processing from some existing photos?
If from existing photos then maybe play around with some crops to get a good shot of his face if there aren't any better full body shots...

Thanks Everyone for the feedback I really appreciate it.

I know what you mean too, it's almost like the horse is superimposed and glowing, I still kind of like it but I can see what you all mean.

fortunately this isn't the pic for the pressie, and yea I will be shooting the horse again (sounds good:() so will follow the suggestions in here and keep it more natural looking, as funky said this is just an older picture but of the same horse. I was messing around with fliter plugins and I don't know why just sort of like this, so might keep this one for myself, but your right probably best to keep it natural for the pressie version, assuming I manage to get decent shot.. I'm a total noob so it will be quite a challenge, lucky it's for my brother so hopefully things will be a lot more relaxed.

Thanks

Martin

Thats good news that you can do a reshoot!
Take a google around - there are some amazing equine photographers and pick a few poses that are impressive and try to recreate them - maybe have some pics printed out in your back pocket so you can refer to them.
Horses I've been around seem to be notoriously stubborn - so I'd try to have 2 friends. One that can nudge the horses body to where you want it and another to act as the distraction/point of interest so you can get the horses face looking in the right direction!

Hope it goes well - and don't forget to let us know how it turns out!

Yea, I'm gonna do a lot reading, and researching etc before I take the acutal pics. That's a good idea about printing some out and keeping them in my pocket for reference too :) will do that.

I've always been a bit wary of horses to be horses to be honest which I guess doens't help, I'm not really a horse person, more a cat and dog (and mantis) person, so have to get past that too which I think the horse picks up on. so your right about them being stubborn etc too.

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement everyone, and I shall deffo be reporting back with my results.
