Only have OB gfx currently and fancy getting back to some gaming.

Dont have a huge budget, but looking for advice on what/where to buy.

Ideally, reliable used seller or cheapy new....

Thinking maybe GTX1050 ish, but Im waaay out of my depth knowledge wise on this stuff nowadays,

Game needs at least 2gb VRAM

PC is
i5-8500 @ 3.00ghz
16gb Ram
Win10 64
Corsair VS450 PSU

Got this game on my rig, i5-2500k with a 3Gb 1050, I did spy a 4Gb 1050Ti for only a couple of £'s extra after I'd bought it. Game runs fine on mine, no lag at all at 1920x1200.

However, there's a new kid-on-the-block, the GTX1650, great performance for around £150, if that's over budget then a 4Gb 1050Ti will still be a great purchase at around £120 or so

I've been running a 1050ti for a long time now and it's a great performance vs price card. Handles everything although not always in max settings.

Installed Totally Accurate Battle Simulator the other day for my son and noticed it slowing down a little when he swamped the field with units, although it is running at 2k maximum settings. Started looking at an upgrade with the 1060 being the obvious and the 6GB version being a bigger performance boost.

But to be honest it's not really necessary, more of a want. Tried overclocking the 1050Ti this evening but didn't notice much improvement so not so sure about changing it now.

You should also look at the AMD RX 570 which comfortably out-performs the GTX 1050 Ti at a lower cost but with the penalty of higher power consumption.
FWIW I have s/h GTX 950 and GTX 1050 Ti I can put in the sales section but the latter is passively cooled so needs plenty of space and airflow.

You need to keep up-to-date on prices as the GTX 1050 Ti is now the same price as the GTX 1650 so there's no advantage to buying a new GTX 1050 Ti.

@Snapsh0t could you give me a guide on pricing for your cards please ?

Another thing I don’t understand with these cards is the fact they are “double branded”... ie, a gtx whatever in thirty is a Radeon, but then you see loads of other gtx cards using different name brands ?

My 1050Ti is fan cooled, would it depend on the brand?

Interesting about the pricing being the same as the 1060, is that for the 6GB version or the 3GB?

The pricing I stated was an indicator based on the pricing which pops up on Google Shopping, my ballparks were correct, the average 1050Ti is £120-£130 and the 1650 averages at about £140-150.

If you can get it cheaper, then great but the OP did state that budget was a priority given that it said "reliable used seller or cheapy new.... ".

For balance between power consumption (Corsair VS450 is a weak PSU) and graphical performance I would opt for a GTX1050 Ti 4GB.

If you buy through the ebuyer express shop on ebay you can use the 10% off code for fathers day which ends tonight.

I'd rather not put prices in here as it can upset the mods. Pop something in the Wanted section and all be be revealed. ;)
The double branding is the combination of chip manufacturer, Nvidia or AMD Radeon, plus the board, etc. manufacturer, eg Asus, Gigabye, EVGA, MSI, etc.

Avoid like the plague!!!!!!

They are fake GTX1050's. It turns out they are actually GTS 450's with flashed firmware so that they show as something else in software.

Ok, cheers for the heads up !

Looks like you have 2 Pci-e connectors (probably 6+2 configuration). Again though worth checking before buying a card.

As a side note if you go for something like a GTX 1050Ti then it only draws power through the motherboard and is therefore a bit easier going on your PSU.

It's worth noting that the PSU you have is a basic model and I wouldnt personally stretch it too much with added power draw.

Example -

GTX 1050Ti draws 75 Watts (non pci-e connector versions)
AMD Radeon 280X draws 210 watts

Your welcome.
No there not all equal. Different brands e.g. Msi or Gigabyte usually go for different cooling methods and or variances in clock speeds, addition of power connector etc.
The differences are more often than not subtle and will rarely show at the consumer side unless your a die hard PC enthusiast.

Do you have a budget to play to?

Not really ! lol...
I was hoping for something around £50, but that now seems unrealistic, unless I can find something reliably used.....

For that budget new is out the window.

If your budget is strict then have a look at something like a GTX960 4gb or GTX 970 4gb. Both are acceptable cards even though they are two generations old.

If call of duty modern warfare remastered is the only game you will play then it may be worth looking at the GTX 1050 2gb model to see if that would work.

Is there any risk with buying used what with overclocking wear or damage? I'm not into overclocking but I did try it the other day just once to see, just in small increments until I got artifacts and reset it back to default.

CEX may be a good place though as you get a two year warranty.

@Herstman - I've replied to your wanted thread.

I recently bought a CPU from CEX and was just a little worried when it arrived in the bottom of a neatly folded brown paper bag; no ESD protection at all. It seems to have survived but that two-year warranty may be useful if there's any long-term damage.

Many thanks for all the input guys. Im going to hold out for a while and buy a new 1050Ti asap......
