Yes
Really feel I ought to have a so called nifty fifty, but wondering where I could get one since I am on a budget...and I cannot ask friend to get me anything more, that is for sure.

Wonder if anyone here has a spare

They occasionally go up for sale in the Sale/Trade forum. However, because it's a fairly inexpensive lens, there isn't much difference between getting it first and second hand. I'd drop Kerso a PM - he got me mine for £50. You'd also have to pay delivery, but it's still possibly the lowest price you'll find for it.

Try sending a PM to KERSO on these forums
He sells canon gear and can usually do a very good price, got mine for about £50 I think

Albedo beat me to it

Kerso quoted me £50 +£10 delivery last week. Cheapest new i've seen from HK is about £65 after high postage costs.

Managed to pick up a lightly used example this week on here for £50 delivered.

I notice you don't mention flash in your kit list quandries - might be something you need to think about before another £60 goes on a lens !

I am seeking flash, but flash is more expensive than a 50mm and unless someone offered me one really cheap, I see no way of getting one. I will only have my £170 incapacity to buy these things with, lol. I have put an ad up asking if anyone has a spare flash etc, but that might have to wait until end of month.

check out EOS-Magazine

There was one on there the other day for £35.

There is a used 550EX on LCE Group website - Gloucester branch for £155 - no idea on condition, but i spotted it earlier this week.

I'd say Kerso for the Nifty Fifty. You're looking about £50 new plus postage.

They occasionally go up for sale second hand, but theyre still sought after lenses :)

Dod usually has one

you could always put yourself down for the 'nifty fifty on tour' thing :)

Kerso's the boy. Although his ebay shop was looking a bit knackered the other day ?

If you can spare a bit more dosh or are prepared to go second-hand, check out an f/1.4. Then you're really taking advantage of the 50mm's strong point - a massive aperture without paying silly money.

Canon do a 50mm f/1.2, but that extra half-stop will cost you dear, compared to the f/1.8 and f/1.4 :nono: I have a 50mm f/1.2 AIS for my Nikon film SLRs - the extreme minimal DOF effects you can get are pretty cool.

They even used to do a f/1.0 - the only manufacturer that was capable of making such a wide aperture for a SLR IIRC, due to Canon's EF lens mount being physically large enough to accommodate it. They appeared to have discontinued it for some reason.

re f/1.0 - specifically it was rubbish and massively expensive!

MPB have 2 in stock, one for £54 and one for £56, both second hand but in atleast "excellent" condition. As its such a light lens the postage should only be about 3 or 4 pounds so overall it would work out cheaper than most other places. For what its worth, I bought my nifty fifty from them a few months ago and it works great just as described so you know what your getting, great service too.

Paid £60 brand new posted off Ebay for mine.

If you're on a budget the f1.8 would be better. I paid the extra for the f1.4 and wish I'd saved the money towards getting something else!

For the difference in cost of new versus used , just go new from Kerso. Only worth going used if you get a filter thrown in (like i did :D )
