Well no need to buy expensive Olympus stuff as it looks like the Praktica BC2400 works with it and maybe other Praktica flash guns as well. Gone is that silly Olympus nonsense of the camera thinking it's a dark exposure shot and the shutter firing at 1 sec, when using other flashguns.

a bit confused by your comment, really - possibly because I know sod all about olympus cameras. Can you clarify, please

You need the proper flashgun to tell the camera to fire the shutter speed at 1/60 sec or whatever it is for these cameras, if you use another flashgun it will fire but the camera doesn't get the signal (to set at say 1/60 sec) and thinks it's a low light shot, so the flash fires at 1/1000 sec but the camera shutter speed could be at 1 sec which could cause secondary ghosting or background blur.

ah, one needs to set the shutter speed manually at 30 or 60, or possibly set it at X. I see now

erm not with this camera, that's why I first mentioned "silly Olympus nonsense" as there is no way of setting it manually, seems to me to be a rip off in that you had to buy an Olympus flashgun (even other cheap makes you can use other flashguns)......but the Praktica uses the same pin arrangement on the hot shoe.

You can set the speed if you have the Manual adaptor, then you can use any flash.

Dave.

Thought that was what the PC connector was for on the OM20's, might be different if your useing the Hotshoe.

The successor to the OM10 i.e. OM20 had a revolutionary idea that you had to hunt down a connector (who kept/keeps them as we all use a hot shoe) and use it so another flash gun (remember those nice Vivitars) could be used.......LOL well not funny really because these cameras have ****ed me off.

You can normally buy om versions of the vivitar flash guns.

Also T20 or T32 flash guns are pretty cheap these days on ebay. I bought my T32 with a complete camera kit very cheaply indeed.
