Hello guys,

I decided that I can't stand the distortion on my 18-200 on the wide end and want to buy something to use as a general walkabout on my a500 that won't distort straight lines that much...

Not much money available (about 150, max 200). I was thinking that a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 may be the best to go for. I don't mind the non-constant aperture as I have a Sigma 24-70 I use in low-light. I just need something that can cover a reasonable range (wide to short tele) that doesnt suffer froma lot of distortion...

Any alternatives that come to mind???

Sigma 17-70 or Tamron 17-50 are probably the best bets for that price range on the Sony, I've had the 17-70 on an A700 and again on my Pentax and its a cracker, should be able to get one for your price range second hand, and possibly for a little more new.

Hi
I've got a 28-135mm canon is lens and its a fantastic walkabout lens. Nice and sharp and very light to carry around. Paid £200 on ebay.

Am I missing something here? 24-70 . . . 24mm is not exactly wide angle, but one would think it might be worth pushing it into service, seeing as money is tight, see how it performs as a walk about?

Well I do love that lens but it's range doesnt help a lot with wide angles. so i was thinking of buying a relatively cheap lens that I could go about without carrying any other lenses with me...something starting from 17-18mm ideally..don't want to sell the sigma though...

Thanks for the replies...well 18-50 and 17-50 won't do it...I need something with a little bit more reach and don't care about the f2.8 as I can use the 24-70 for that...

Will try and find a used 17-70 then...
