Hi all.
While I was thinking about getting cheap tent - can you recommend 1/2 person cheap tent for not more than £45? I will be my first camp-doing since..... last time I did it over 16 years ago :]. My goal is to do some driving and hiking through weekends and take some sunset and sunrise photos. :]

Please advise some :D

Just seen a 2/.3 person tent in ALDI FOR 24.99 - Gets a few good reviews - worth a punt take home get the hose out and test! Gonna get one myself

If you're simply looking for a cheap "shell" to sleep in for a couple of nights, then most supermarkets, Argos, Halfords et al will have not just tents, but bundles well within your budget.
If you want a tent with good seaming, weather/wind protection, security etc., then like most things you'll need to invest rather more.

British weather being what it is I wouldn't risk cheap. Had one for my kids when they were younger so that could camp in the garden,
but it was useless in rain etc.
A relatively decent one needn't cost the earth, just go to proper outdoor hiking/camping place and talk to them about what you want.

If you are anywhere near a Go Outdoors store, they are reducing the prices of their tents now. You need to buy a £5 membership card to get the reduced prices, but they really do have all sizes and prices of tents.

Avoid single skin festival tents - condensation is a real issue.
My non-mountain tent is a Gelert DS2 - a pop-up tent with a double skin. I've used it in heavy rain, no isses at all. It was about your price point but has been discontinued and I can't say I like the let-in-the-rain ventilation flap on the replacement; mine gives ventilation even while it is raining. Gelert is a good brand though, so it may be that I'm misreading how it works.

have you a Decathlon nearby.. we camp a lot and you see a lot of Quechua's about now and get very good reviews, they have other brands too...

I will spend any amount of money on tents, we love them. Outwell still my fave brand, Gelert by far the worse in ours and friends experiences.

If you're not backpacking the bigger Decathlon popup tents are great for ease of putting up. No that tall inside but convenient.
Just remember Erno Rubik probably designed the procedure for collapsing them again...in tandem with M C Escher.

That's probably why so many of the pop up tents get left at festivals for the organisers to dispose of.

we have 2, 2 person popup tents and they are no problem putting them away, pretty much exactly the same as my popup photo backgrounds.

You probably stay less FUBAR than most festival goers! A friend of ours did security for Glastonbury last year and came away with a rather nice pop up tent that had been simply abandoned after the owner gave up. It was one of many (and we're talking hundreds!) pop up tents that were left on site, with relatively few of the more traditional variety being left behind. I have a beach shelter that pops up - a bit fiddly to collapse on my own but I manage to get it back in its bag eventually!

You're unlikely to get a hiking tent for that sort of money, if you want something light enough to carry in a rucksack then you'll need to spend £100 ish

Don't get a pop-up tent unless you intend to only use it on calm days (they tend to fold flat if there is more than a breeze)

Ps. I have more tents than Mrs G has shoes

as mentioned, decathlon, Ive used one of their 2 man, £20 tents (may have been on offer) and it was quite good, didnt have condensation problems and to be one the safe side i treated the shell with a waterproofing spray before i went.

Look up the ProAction 'Tiger Paws' 1 man tent. Legendary tent for backpacking. They don't make them anymore but you can get one from eBay and probably stay under budget as well. I doubt you will get better for the money you want to spend.
