We have a swann HD WiFi camera in our house. Cost us £50 and does the job.
It records motion events to micro SD card as well as emailing them also.
(Motion events consist of snapshots plus 3-10 seconds worth of footage).
The app let's us remotely connect over the network/4G to see what is happening at any point and record events happening live (recording time is dependent upon amount of storage on device viewing the live feed.

StorageOptions and similar IP cameras can be hadfor around £50. The security on them is woeful so not advisable to portforward or DMZ them for remote access. Use VPN into home network instead. Works well with surveillance station on a synology NAS for recording when motion is detected. Can also be configured to email stills when activity is detected, but needs some tweaking in rooms where light levels can change quickly due passing clouds etc.

Have a look at Canary units - motion detection - records last few hours to secure web site (I think it's 12 hours) and sends alerts to your phone, and you can activate really loud alarm if you get alert - my mate has one and it's cracking bit of kit (£139 from currys)

I dont want to sound like a scaremonger, but I would have to look very hard at any solution that relies on third parties/cloud for any part of its provision. Particularly for a device for which the main function is surveillence.

At the very least it needs to have updatable firmware and not be susceptible to heart bleed and poodle. Often these devices rely on buggy recycled firmware to keep thr costs down.

As a bit of kit it looks nice and appealing but I also think for the upload and streaming an IP cam should allow complete user choice as to where said videos are uploaded to. A lot of folk have webspace of sufficient size to store such videos away from the casual or not so casual opportunist. Plus there are 3rd apps available for viewing and access. Yes, setup may be more skilled but........I guess you pays and money takes your choice.

FWIW I have yet to invest but is it on my general list and at one time I looked Mobotix and at that time it ticked a lot of boxes except the price point :(

I use Foscam cameras (generic ones) and IP Cam Viewer Pro for Android. The two together is a very powerful surveillance tool. We have three cameras but used to have 5. It also syncs with dropbox and can be remotely managed. Very little cost involved.
