Hi

Very new to the hobby but I would like to purchase some studio lights for doing portrait work. I have a very tight budget and the lights would not be used that often just to take photos of family and friends. I have seen some advertised on ebay from a company called Fotobyte. The price seems very reasonable, has any one purchased any studio lights from them or any advice please?

Regards

Ted

What is your budget? What size is the studio? You can get good results with a single off-camera flash, e.g. a Yongnuo for 50.00 or less, a lightstand for under a tenner, and a shoot--thru umbrella for around a tenner.

That kit is amazingly cheap, so one has to assume the quality reflects that...
As kartracer says, a single flash that can be used off camera along with a stand, an umbrella and a reflector may be a better place to start. Even just a simple bounced flash is often enough, is easy to carry and needs no setting up - or there is always daylight, such as it is at this time of year..

Yongnuo 460 II - £30

Konig lightstand on Amazon - £9

Shoot-through umbrella on eBay - £6

Oh and flash triggers - RF 602 - £30

And you can expand on that, whilst with your £150 ebay kit you'll have to sell on a loss to upgrade should you want to!

Thanks for the replys what ever kit I buy if I upgrade I have to sell at loss so I will be thinking about it, it just seemed a lot of kit for a smallish out lay maybe I will have another look at a smaller set up first as you guys have suggested.
