I am looking to get a basic lighting setup. I have a D300 and an SB-600.

I am now looking at adding at least another flash, some stands and either shoot through/reflective brollies or softboxes? I'm on a very tight budget of about £90. I will mainly be using it for indoor portraits mainly of my kids etc.

The bit i'm getting spun out on is the flash - i would like to use nikons cls in off camera stuff like i do now but cannot afford another sb-600 (cheapest compatible nikon flash)
If a buy say i yonguro or other 3rd party flash i'm not sure how i would trigger it with the sb600 off camera. The pop commander only triggers compatible cls flashes doesn't it? I'm not afraid of using manual which i'm guessing i would have to as ttl wouldnt work. Then would i need triggers for the cheap flash? or would trigger as an optical slave.

Can anyone recommend a nice cheap 3rd party flash that is compatible with CLS or advise the best way i can do this.

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions!

You need to think past CLS and read up this website from front to back http://www.strobist.blogspot.co.uk/

I've done a fair bit of reading there thanks mate, great site im quite willing to ditch cls just thought it would be useful if it was still a possibility. I just can't quite figure how the sb-600 and a cheapo flash will trigger together from the pop commander?

A bit above your budget, but may be what you are looking for, (if you want to be a bit of a guinea pig!):

Meike SB900 clone

Thanks for that but its a bit too much (looks good though) as i want a stand and some sort of diffuser too.

I use a nissin di1662 mk2 which seems to work well with the CLS. Not sure how much they are now mind.

I mainly shoot the kids and bought a couple of cheap shoot through brollies and stands.

Ideally I'd like another strobe and triggers but can't justify the cost at the mo!

Forgot to say, when I only had the sb900, I used a reflector with a stand and brolly. I got the stands from amazon - around a tenner - konig ones I think. Then some cheap brollies and hotshoe mounts. I think brollies are the more economical way forward compared to softboxes on a limited budget.
