Cheap SLR

Hello, i recently got into photography (about 8 months ago off and on) recently got to play with my sisters old Centon k100 SLR untill it broke (1 and half rolls of film into playing with it) but it has made me want to buy a SLR.

Now i dont want to spend that much on one as eventually i want a DSLR but for the time being i wouldnt mind spending a little on a SLR.

Any recommendations? i ave noticed i could rebuy a Centon K100 on ebay for around £20. Also does anyone know if a Centon lens will fit on another body as i already have a 50mm Centon lens from the dead body.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Centon was (IIRC) Jessops own-brand a while back, and Google says that they use the Pentax K-mount, so I'd assume Centon lenses will work on Centon or Pentax, and Pentax K-mount will work on Centon. I suspect from some more googling that your camera is a copy of the Pentax K1000 (which I own, great manual camera for learning on!) so keep your eyes open for K1000's too, they sometimes show up on the likes of Gumtree for around £10-20 without lens, but ebay prices can be silly.

Centon had minolta and pentax clones. I had a centon df something that was a minolta clone and fit minolta md lenses.

Also have a look on cash converters as they often have kits of slr gear going for £30-50 that have a body and several lenses. I wouldn't necessarily tie yourself to sticking with a brand that the centon fits if you can pick up a whole cheap kit which will give you a much wider range of things to play with.
 
also agree on second hand shops ,they have some film SLR prices that almost bring a tear to my eye
 
Not trying to knock the OP but why would you want a film camera in this day and age ?

surely the price of film and development outweighs the price of the hardware, digital is so cheap to run, once you have the hardware which I must admit does come at a larger price.

I personally couldn't go back to rolls of film, not after using a digital camera.

Because i like playing with film and the feel the pictures gives you. I have a pretty decent point and shoot digital which i will be using for a year before i consider having a Dslr but i will still use film cameras as nice to play with different mediums.

Guess its all personally opinion at the end of the day.

and thanks for the heads up on the second hand shops, Any cameras i should keep my eyes peeled for that i wouldn't want to pass up?
