My Epson R800 has been retired,no longer print my own images and cant afford to keep it in ink :'( So can anyone recommend a cheap n nasty printer for just black n white documents etc.

Cheap b&w laser printer..... way, WAY cheaper running costs when compared to inkjet.

:agree:
I bought a cheap laser in 2005.
I haven't yet emptied the supplied toner cartridge.

You'll save the original purchase price of a B&W laser printer PDQ, even in a home environment. Home printing of the digital manuals becomes affordable!

Yeah go for a cheap mono laser.
Research the toner costs though - if you can get 3rd party toners then even better, they are dead dead cheap.

Thanks very much for all the help

Be as wary of el cheapo toner carts as you are of inks... One I got from 7dayshop went back for a refund and a replacement genuine one came via Amazon - the cheapo was a lot cheaper but didn't work - totally black pages! 7day didn't want the dead one back and refunded full cost, no quibble.

Most are fine. You'll get faulty genuine ones, obviously they'll have better QC though.

You can even refill them which isn't too hard.

Rather messy (or can be!!!) [And that's speaking from personal experience.]

 Wow... those entry-level lasers cost the same price as their replacement toner cartridges.

No different from the inkjets - low entry point to tempt you, then get you in the long grass with higher consumable usage.
If you're printing heavily, then you ideally need a business class printer like the Kyocera FS-2100D - but at 5x the buy-in cost, you'd need to work out which is the most cost effective option based on your throughput, etc.

I have a Samsung CLP-2160 (think it cost £150ish a few years ago). The last time I bought toner, I paid £19 for a full colour compatible set off ebay (whether it causes problems remains to be seen, but...). Looking at the really cheap printers - I agree - it is a tradeoff between initial and running costs.

If you are looking for cheap then I certainly have that with the Samsing ML2160 mono

Shop around and you will find it for less than £50. Amazon are under that.

I got a replacement Cartridge for £20 on ebay delivered next day which is working fine.

Knocks out Quotes Invoices and general stuff cleanly etc.

Cheaper that the built in.obselescence of the cheapo inkjets.
