Hey,

Before I start, this isn't for me. :) The wife wants to get her mum a cheap A4 printer around the £50 mark, it will be used for printing photos but she won't be fussed about amazing quality like you would if it was for a business etc.

Now for £50 I've suggested we get her the one with the cheapest ink, however the wife demands I ask you folks for any suggestions?

check out the Canon Outlet on ebay... I picked up two printers for peanuts (ie both together including shipping came to less than £50!). Both are photo printers.
At the mo, I'm using the MP460 printer (which is an all-in-one) mainly for normal text printing but the photos off it are fine too (I use an HPB9180 A3+ for the photos normally!)

Have a look to see if you can find a 2nd hand Canon IP4500 / 4600 - cracking printer and reasonable priced on inks.

Or wait until the sales start over Christmas and see what you can pick up

It is really important to look at the ink prices. I bought a HP printer for about £50 a couple of years ago but the set of inks needed now cost over £40 and I cant afford to buy them.
