Yes
I've never really tried macro, and am in need of something to get me out with my camera again, so am wondering if I should try my hand at macro.
So, any suggestions what to look at, and maybe what to avoid ?
I doubt I'll get into bugs and the like, so maybe don't need a true macro, but something that'll get me up close to small flowers etc.
Second hand is good as it may be sold on if I don't get the 'bug' as it were....

I'd be tempted to have a look at a set of extension tubes to get you started assuming you have a suitable lens to use them with. I've been using a set of the Kenko AF extension tubes which I picked up off here for around £60 for a while with an 85 1.8 and they work great. I'll probably end up buying a Nikon or Sigma 105mm macro in the fullness of time, but these work great for now.

Thanks Si - I'll take a look at some extension tubes, but a quick look says that the Sigma 105 you mention isn't as scarily expensive as I feared, so I may look for a used one of them as I imagine it might be easier to sell on if I don't decide to stick with it - hey, maybe even to you !!!

The Sigma isn't prohibitively expensive - the Nikon is a bit more serious at over double the price!

Hmm yeah...!
Guess the Nikon is out then !
There is a Sigma on sale here at £300, but also a couple of ebay that are interesting.
Lets see what happens, and thanks for your help.

Don't forget the Tamron 90mm - older versions are screw driven rather than having in lens AF motors but IIRC all Nikon FF bodies have screw drive AF anyway.

The sigma and tamron are nice. There's s decent tokina 100mm lens too. All should be available for £200 ish.

Thanks for the further suggestions - looks like I am getting a Sigma 105 in the next few days !
