Hi..

I currently have a Sony Alpha 350 with the HVL-F36AM flash.

I can use the wireless mode on the flash, with it attached to my tripod as a stand, thats all fine, but it doesnt have manual power settings.

Is there a cheap flash available with manual power setting which would work off camera with a sony? I have the pt-04 remote triggers cheap from ebay, so need a flashgun I can use this way.

I've looked at the vivitar 285hv, but was wondering if anyone can suggest some different types, as I can only seem to find the vivitar on american sites and the delivery charge is extortionate.

Some links and/or prices would be appreciated.

Depends what you mean by "cheap" - £60 or so will get you a new Vivitar 285HV from HK, or a 20 year old Nikon SB-24 from Fleabay.

You pays your money.....

Sunpak 383, 422D, 444D, 30DX, 36DX etc. All fairly similar, with higher numbers in a series being more powerful and e.g. 422D being the US model name for the 30DX. The 383 doesn't accept a dedicated module.

Look for a tilt/swivel head and, if necessary, ask the seller to confirm that the power can be set manually (full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 for the Sunpaks).

I think Jessops own at £99 will also do the trick.

Here's a list of some flashes and whether they have Variable Power (Manual).

Depending on whether you have the V2 (12-200v) or V2s (1-12v) receiver you'll need to match the trigger voltage, as listed here.
