Cheap flash solution for Canon 40D?

Does anyone know of a cheap flash solution for a 40D?

I dont do flash at all, but will be away somewhere in a week or so where high ISO will still not be enough. I could resort to the on-board pop up, but if there is a cheap solution out there that meters well and at least raises the flash higher up I make take a punt for this occasion.

Any ideas?
 
I'm interested in the outcome of this, as I'm looking for a solution for my 20D
 
Jessops own flash units?
Or scout around for a cheap 430ex.
 
some sigma units are quite decent for the money
 
The Sigma DG530 Super gets good reviews. Seem to go second hand at about £80.

The main weakness with them seems to be around the hotshoe mating area; apparently they're quite weak and break off rather easily..other than that, more than adequate for what you need it for :thumbs:
