As I had been given a Bulk Film Loader along with all the darkroom stuff I decided to buy some Bulk 35mm film from ebay, ended up buying a 30 mtr spool of Ultrafine Plus ISO100 and a 30 mtr roll of Ultrafine Extreme ISO400 along with another bulk film loader. Cost was about £20 for each film and just over £10 for postage.

I loaded a film of what I thought was 18 shots of the Ultrafine Plus 100 into a cassette and stuck it in the Pentax LX that I had bought but not got around to using since it's return from a CLA with Miles, after I had finished work on Wednesday I popped a couple of hundred yards up the road and took a few images with both the SMC 50mm f1.4 and the SMC 28mm f2.8.

The film was developed in Ilford LC29 at 1:19 dilution for 7.5 minutes and although the negatives looked a little thin on the lightbox they seemed to have a full range of tones. I have been unable to scan them until today as my desktop PC decided to throw a wobbly on Wednesday evening and I ended up putting together a new PC today. I am glad I did though as it is a AMD Phenom II Quad processor with 16 GB ram running Win 7 64 bit, and by God it flies.

So here are three images from the 13 taken, (I forgot about the frames for the leader and the end of the spool). They are not brilliant subjects but I just wanted to get a feel of how the film performed. I am quite pleased with the results and have printed a couple to have a look at the edge sharpness, which to be quite honest has blown me away.

I now have a quandary as I was hoping the LX and the lenses would be crap so I could justify just keeping the Olympus outfit, now it looks like I may well keep both. :bonk:

SMC 28mm f2.8 lens, probably about f5.6 (light was not great) and at 1/60 sec

SMC 50mm f1.4 lens, f8 and 1/8th sec (Camera on gatepost and self timer used)

Definitely keep both. Whilst Olympus cameras & lenses are outstanding, the Pentax LX is a fantastic SLR as are the lenses you have to go with it. I had both the MX and LX myself many years ago.

Olympus bodies are better, but Pentax lenses are just exquisite. It's a friggin hard choice. I decided my LX had to go, I'll be looking for a PZ1P to replace it though.
