Cheap cross cut shredder that won't drive you mad??

Is there such a thing?? I have loads of old stuff to get rid of. Put it off as I didn't have a shredder. Borrowed one and it is dreadful! It is supposed to take 5 sheets at a time. It usually can manage a max of 2. So you end up feeding one at a time. After about 10 sheets it's ready for a snooze. It's constantly bunging up so you do a few sheets. Stop it. Pull the bin out, pull the stuck paper out. Tidy up lose paper that's now everywhere. Start it again. Do a few more. Bin full. Empty bin. Start again. It's taken all day just to do about 60 sheets. That's probably 5% of what is needed.

I was looking at fellowes one which is about £80 that has a run time of 10 minutes and a 250 page a day duty cycle. Is that going to actually manage to do what I think any shredder should do ie shred a decent wodge of paper in one go?

I looked at a few with automatic sheet feeders but they only take crappo copier paper and not anything other than A4 in the feeder. So annoying as otherwise you could load it up and walk away.

Sorting out paperwork is very, very, very boring!
 
Can't suggest a current model but ours is an Advent maxishred 500 and it takes anything we put in and keeps going.

It's rated at 12 sheets and has a CD destruction slot too. Doesn't help much being as it is discontinued but the 12 sheet rating and CD slot might be a clue to build quality and something to look for. Think it cost about £30 from pcworld.

it does struggle with 12 sheets but 6 at a time doesn't slow it down and it will run for a long time without overheating.
 
I think I have that fellows one. It is a really tiny diamond cut. Number of sheets really depends on the weight of the paper.

I go through big sessions of previous years papers and digitise them. It still overheats at times. But i have hardly ever had paper stuck, do need to lubricate it with those special sheets when emptying to keep it in good condition.
 
Shame those advent ones can't be found now. At 12 sheets it has some oomph!

It's in between the fellowes and the rexel. Torn between more sheets at once with shorter running or fewer sheets and 10 minutes rather than 3.
 
Not sure about the green issues here - if you have a lot, how about an incinerator (or bonfire)?
 
Incinerator or fire isn't a good idea due to no sensible place to burn it. Too many dry and flammable hedges close by.

Amazon warehouse had the rexel for just under £50 so I've plumped for that. Confetti cut too so should be even better than cross cut. Allegedly that model doesn't need oiling either...
